MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE ADDING MORE LGBTQ HEROES IN UPCOMING FILMS
One Angry Gamer ^ | June 27th 2018 | Billy D

After the media decided to take Marvel executives to task for not having enough LGBTQIA representation in their live-action films, Marvel Studios runner Kevin Feige was pressured into confirming that there will be more out and about characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a means of attempting to assuage the Rainbow Reich.

Speaking with The Playlist, the outlet practically coerced Feige into confirming that LGBTQ heroes or heroines will be featured in upcoming movies after they complained that Ant-Man and The Wasp didn’t feature any flamboyantly gay characters, with the outlet writing….

“The context for the interview was for “Ant-Man and the Wasp” where despite the film’s San Francisco setting there isn’t a gay character to be found (it should be noted it is technically the studio’s first film with a female lead in the title). With Pride month in full effect, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to ask the Feige when its LGBTQ+ fans would get to see themselves represented on screen”

They proceeded to pepper Feige with questions about heroes or heroines who would be out and flaunting their homosexuality on-screen. The exact exchange went as follows:

“The Playlist: When are we getting a Gay, Bi, LGBTQ, out character in the MCU? Is it even in the works?

Kevin Feige: Yes.

The Playlist: That’s the answer?

Kevin Feige: Yeah, that’s the answer.

The Playlist: It’s not someone we’ve seen yet, I’m guessing?

Kevin Feige: Both.

The Playlist: Both?

Kevin Feige: Both ones you’ve seen and ones you haven’t seen.”

The one character that The Playlist assumes was already confirmed as LGBTQ was Tessa Thompson’s character in Thor: Ragnarok, where the actress confirmed via social media that the character was supposed to be a bisexual lesbian of sorts.

The other character who is LGBTQ hasn’t been put to film yet, so it’s going to be someone in either Spider-Man: Far From Home or Captain Marvel. Given the fact that Carol Danvers is portrayed as extra-masculine in the comic books of Captain Marvel, it wouldn’t be entirely shocking if she was the first out and about lesbian in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Comic book fans have long held the belief that this newer Captain Marvel has all the trademark trappings of a lesbian in everything but name. The question is: would Marvel be so bold as to make their leading lady heroine bite the sociopolitical bullet and munch on the carpet of social justice?

I guess we’ll find out who the LGBTQ character is within the next few Marvel films that make their way into theaters. The real test will be whether or not the character is explicitly gay or if their homosexual character trait is little more than background noise.

Deadpool isn’t enough?

And I didn’t read the comics and only saw the first film but he says that he was sexually abused as a child, so that fits in with how many homosexuals get their start.

popsugar.com/entertainment/Deadpool-Pansexual-Movies-44849711
Apart from these characteristics, there is much interest regarding Deadpool’s sexuality. His character in the comic books has been labeled as pansexual, which is a huge deal for any mainstream hero. (For those of you who need to catch up on terminology, pansexual describes a person who is fluid in their sexuality, meaning that they do not have a preference based on gender or gender identity.)

Deadpool writer Rhett Reese even said regarding Deadpool’s pansexuality, “We knew that was part of the comics. We wanted to honor that in the movie.”

But is Deadpool actually pansexual in the films?

The hero has an onscreen girlfriend in Vanessa. In keeping with Deadpool’s story, Vanessa is a sex worker and his feelings for her ground him, exposing his humanity throughout the films. But he can love a woman and still be attracted to other people — does the new film address this?

Not outright.

...In a more obvious sense, clues to Deadpool’s sexuality can be found in his trademark one-liners. He lightens the severity of situations with his scrappy comments that revolve around sexual, sometimes flirtatious, jokes, mostly at the expense of the men (or even fellow superheroes) who he is alongside at the time.

Either way, Deadpool 2 does feature an LGBTQ+ relationship (not including the title character), which is at least a step in the direction of diversity. So look forward to a little shake-up in the superhero world; it just became more progressive, layered, and potentially relatable to a much broader audience!

The people who say that violence in movies doesn’t influence the culture pulled smoking out of films and push homosexuality at every turn.

But movies don’t influence behavior.

Right.

I haven't set foot in a theater in 15 years.I haven't subscribed to HBO,etc for 20 years.I haven't bought a DVD or bluray in 15 years.If there's a movie I want to see I borrow it from my local library.

I doubt that there's anything else I can do to boycott "Hollywood".

Marvel killed their comic sales by doing this and now they rely on the movies for revenue.

Go ahead, kill your remaining source of income. I’m tired of the capetrash movies being churned out.

Just one more reason why I’m tuning out these type of movies. Why pay my hard earned money to see something that is going to make me sick to my stomach and vomit right there in the theater No thank you.

Same here. I have a nice 50” plasma I bought several years ago and it is a joy to watch movies on.

Besides, movies in theaters come out on Blu-Ray so fast now. It’s not like waiting years for Batman to be released on VHS. The blockbusters in theaters now will be available on Blu-Ray/streaming/Redbox by Christmas to capitalize on consumer demand.

In some cases, popular movies have barely left the theater and they are already available.

And my living room is much more comfortable than the soda stained, crowded, excessively loud movie theater.

When I was a preteen nearly sixty years ago, we were interested in the Character, integrity and specific talents of superheros. It is what they did which defined them for us; not their sexual preferences or which flavor they favored.

I've stopped watching network TV altogether about 12 years ago and took out cable about 8 years ago. Now it's purchased DVD movies of my own choice and occasional streaming of family style movies and they're getting harder to find. And I've gone to the theater now about 4 times in the past 4 years and only once in the past 2 years. I just got fed up with the smut and garbage and finally said enough is enough.

These folks don’t seem to be watching the Star Wars meltdown over at Disney. Pushing the virtue signaling rather than a good story is not a good idea. Movies can now cost $1B to make. A flamboyantly homosexual character isn’t going to bring an extra 10 million viewers into the theater. But it might keep about 10 million viewers out of the theater. Especially in the global market where many cultures don’t see the value in perversion.
