How Andrés Manuel López Obrador will remake Mexico

Mexican voters are so fed up with their ruling class that they are taking a chance on a populist.

These events sum up what many Mexicans have long liked about Mr López Obrador, and what others fear. His concern for the poor and wish to improve their lot is sincere. However, Mr López Obrador has a shaky grasp of economics—urging some people not to pay their bills tends to drive up prices for everyone else, for example. And he has little respect for rules or institutions. This matters because Mr López Obrador is set to become Mexico’s president in an election on July 1st. He has a poll lead of 25 points over his nearest challenger, Ricardo Anaya of the conservative National Action Party (PAN). José Antonio Meade, a non-party candidate picked by the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), is further adrift. There is also a chance that a coalition led by Morena, founded four years ago, will win control of congress.

Oh, they're poised to elect a populist. How awesome huh? Not sure what the folks at the economist had in their brownies this morning but they might at well push uncle bernie to run for prez of meh-eek-OH. Has anyone actually glanced at Venezuela? More train loads of "refugees" will be bound for the border. How do these people manage to pull the wool over peoples eyes anyway?

Yes, let’s see how narco-socialism works out.

After we build the wall.

He will just continue to maintain Mexico’s sovereignty while helping to destroy ours.

Require proof that you’re legally in the country to remit money out of it.

Try reading the article first . . . the entire article.

Not only is he anti-abortion AND anti gay rights, he’s basically talking about doing the same thing in southern Mexico as Trump is in the Midwest. Easy to just accept paradigms but our side tends to follow facts. Looks like he has evolved a lot of his thinking.

Frankly, I didn’t see a lot to hate in the article and he specifically does not look to be confrontational with Trump. I suspect he finds the attempts to migrate to the U.S. by his population a slap in the face.

The goal is to overrun the United States. The invaders will be declared legal during Chaos ensues in United States and then Canada is overrun. History will record the United States and Canada died from the current ongoing invasion because all attempts to halt the invasion was stopped by all knowing politicians and judges. Get adjusted and learn Spanish first then learn Arabic and Chinese. The politicians are doing all they can to keep the money flowing their way while they bathe in corruption. If these politicians are not Trump(ed) soon, then the politicians will never be Trump(ed) ..... imho

Mexico - now on the path that Venezuela took with Chavez.....

Poor stupid Mexicanos - signing their own death warrant........

Socialists promise the poor salvation and then end up taking what little they have, then killing them.........

But then, I suspect the Mexicanos know nothing of Cuba, Venezuela.

In Nicaragua, at least the citizens are waking up, and even former Sandiinista’s (I know some....) are turning against Ortega.......they no longer buy his BS.........

The way I see it, he couldn’t possibly be any worse than what Mexico had before, especially that pig, Vincente Fox.

Cuba has agents in place throughout the Mexican government. The Cuban security apparatus is among the best in the world.

Populist? He’s a communist. Concern for the poor? He’s telling the poor to escape Mexico, which is pretty clear evidence he intends to keep the massive income gap between rich and poor, and the hopeless job prospects for the poor, and the disappeared middle class, all in place.

A anti-American communist on our southern border is OK because he is against abortion and sexually straight? What have you been smoking?

“And he has little respect for rules or institutions”

Having no respect for the rules and institutions of Mexico is a sign of being a sentient life form. That place is steeped in the most backwards variation of catholicism, old European monarchy and oligarchy, in corruption and ignorance, etc.

This guy will take them Venezuela, but no, the answers to Mexico’s problems are not found in the rules and institutions of Mexico. Except oddly, the Mexican Marines.

READ the WHOLE ARTICLE before you spout off. The labeling of him as a Communist is WAY OFF now.

It specifically says he will not confront Trump.

Don’t be so lazy.

He would take a loan from China to build a road and railway.

He should ask Sri Lanka about the wisdom of that.

Looks like we may get another chance to invade Mejico at this rate. I’m sure the families of all the political candidates killed this latest election cycle would be supportive.

Because of greed and covetousness. As Bastiat said, “Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else.”

It never dies. As long as people use their vote to steal other people’s stuff, we will have socialism and communism.
