US reiterates Turkey travel warning, citing detention risk (detention risk from Turkey)

The United States on Thursday warned its citizens against travelling to Turkey, citing a nationwide crackdown that has led to the arrest of thousands of people, including US passport holders.

“Reconsider travel to Turkey due to terrorism and arbitrary detentions,” the State Department said, retaining a travel warning already in place.

US citizens had also been subject to travel bans that prevented them from leaving the country, the State Department said on its website. “Under the State of Emergency, security forces have detained tens of thousands of individuals, including US citizens, suspected of affiliation with alleged terrorist organizations based on scant or secret evidence and grounds that appear to be politically motivated,” it said.

“Do not travel to the areas along the Turkey-Syria border and the southeastern provinces of Hatay, Kilis, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Şırnak, Diyarbakir, Van, Siirt, Muş, Mardin, Batman, Bingöl, Tunceli, Hakkari, and Bitlis due to terrorism,” added the statement.

It also noted that the US government has very limited ability to provide emergency services to US citizens traveling in southeastern Turkey, as the US government restricts its employees from traveling to the region.

It is dicey in Turkey for anyone, let alone tourists or business persons. Example:

Five more people arrested for ‘swearing at Erdogan’ in Turkey’s Izmir.

Islam or communism ideologies for dictators and warmongers.

Remember American Serena Shim. Hit by a cement truck two days after Turkey’s Military Intelligence accused her of being a spy.

I was Incirlik in 1982. I would very much agree with that. I didn’t exactly have any warm fuzzy feelings for them either. I figured those chumps would feel more comfortable being our enemies, than our friends. I still feel that way. I got no time for Turkey.

Yes. True That.

I am very surprised that any paper in Turkey would be able to print that.

In the article at your link, it is stated that Izmir is the center of support for the CHP, the Kemalist. Until recently, Erdogan has not provoked them. They ran Turkey from the end of WWI until about 15-20 years ago as Erdgoan rose to power.

İnce lost the presidential race to Erdoğan in the June 24 election. Erdoğan garnered 52.6 percent of the vote against İnce’s 30.6 percent, according to unofficial results. (only done by extreme voter fraud by AKP and extreme voter suppression of the pro Kurd HDP)

In İzmir, which is seen as the stronghold of the CHP, Erdoğan secured 32.92 percent of the vote while İnce got 54 percent in the presidential poll.

Erdogan's AKP party, supports all Islamists. ISIS, Nusra (al-Qaeda), Sultan Murat and the Muslim Brotherhood. The leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood moved from Egypt to Turkey as Egyptian President Sisi dealt with them in Egypt. Turkey is now the Rat's nest for Terrorists.

Your concern is warranted. I’ll keep him in my prayers.

There are some here on FR who grew up there. Watching this is painful for them.

I’m sure the Islamists are what you said. Turks are not noted for human kindness, but I’m sure there are exceptions.

Most of those that are persecuted in Turkey are kind people in general. Greek, Armenian, Alevi, Jews, Ezidi and Assyrians. All of them have been targets of Massacres or Genocide.

turkey had the chance to join the civilized world, and rejected it by electing islamist dictators. Too late now. No sane person should go to turkey.
