Angela Merkel's Interior Minister Horst Seehofer to resign in asylum row: party sources

Party sources said Sunday evening that German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer had offered his resignation both from the cabinet and as CSU leader after unexpectedly re-escalating his standoff with Chancellor Angela Merkel over Germany’s asylum policy.

But according to reports from a crunch leadership meeting in Munich that stretched into early Monday morning, other senior party figures had tried to dissuade Seehofer from stepping down. A press conference that had been expected all evening was eventually postponed, with party sources telling reporters that Seehofer was going to seek one more talk with Merkel on Monday about asylum policy before deciding on his future.

Seehofer, leader of the Christian Social Union (CSU), the Bavarian sister party to Merkel’s conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU), had said earlier that his meeting with the chancellor on Saturday had “not had any effect” on their conflict.

This was a direct contradiction of Merkel’s account of the meeting, which she delivered in an interview with public broadcaster ZDF on Sunday. “The sum of everything we have decided has the same effect [as national measures],” she said. “That is my personal conclusion. Of course, the CSU will have to decide that for itself.” …

Sounds like Frau Merkel is lying to save her coalition. Surely there is a man in Germany who can replace her and try to save the country.

Not any with the character of a US president that’s not on the left, let’s put it that way.

This tactic of ruling by crisis was a created problem in search of a strongman solution, or a strongman with solutions to impose.

The freaks won. Sadly, this is part of the end of the age.

The European approach to critical diplomacy:

Hold a really long meeting then afterwards issue a statement saying everything’s all worked (even though, as you find out later, every single participant in the meeting has a completely different opinion as to what they just “agreed to”).

I don’t think Noah looked up from his building of the Ark and said “The freaks won”. That’s with respect to your noting the end of the age. The prince of this world knows his time is short.

There are no more men in Germany. They’ve all been wussified.

The interior minister's "master plan," which triggered the present German government crisis just over two weeks ago, would see asylum-seekers who had already been registered elsewhere being shut out of Germany — a potential breach of EU law and the Geneva Convention on refugees' rights

Sounds pretty reasonable so of course Merkel, and The EU are against it.

I don’t think it’s the likely end of Merkel’s coalition deal. There’s been various rumors of the FDP or Greens being pursued as the replacement ‘partner’.

I would agree, it’s probably the biggest drama in German politics in thirty years, and really goes back to Merkel’s lack of executive skills, or accomplishments for the past decade. Everything on her problem list....has to always be resolved or fixed via the EU, which just demonstrates to a regular working class German that Berlin has no authority or leadership anymore.

"The freaks have their victories. We know who wins in the end."

You got it right.

When there was a need for more natural gas the powers-that-be think it is fine idea to talk to the Russians, get their pockets lined, and now Europe will be more dependent upon the Russians than ever before. But if Trump wishes to have a sit down with Vlad well that is pure evil, hehehe.

The law in the EU is whatever Generalishimo Merkel says it is on that particular day. Building an empire is all she cares about; screw the German people, their culture and the rest of Europe right along with it.

This woman is pure evil and there isn't a politician in western Europe who has the balls to stand up to her. Really sad.

“The chancellor also said she had made concessions to Seehofer’s demands. “I would like very much for the CDU and CSU to continue working together,” she added. “Because we are a success story for Germany.”

HA!

“The leaderships of the CDU and CSU met separately in Berlin and Munich on Sunday to discuss whether and how the two parties, which have been allied since 1949, will continue to work together. The CSU is facing a state election in Bavaria in October, and has opted to take a hard-line anti-immigration stance as its main campaign strategy.”

Finally, an indication WTF they’re fighting about. Surprise.
