I think he should be saved for when Ginsburg goes. That’s where the real fight is going to be. If anyone thinks they are going crazy over Kennedy being replaced, they just need to wait and see what happens when Trump gets to replace a leftie on the Court. Then when they inevitably, viciously attack Thapar, we can counter-attack them for opposing the first Asian on the Court. Right now, though, Trump should be able to get someone through without too much difficulty (I hope at least).

That is a good point. But the Dims will conveniently attack any ethnicity (Clarence Thomas) if it doesn’t line up with their ideology - they would do everything to make people forget he would be the first Indian American on the court, whereas if he were a Lefty, their cries would be, “Confirm him or you must be racist!”

Pick a woman at that time to replace her.

That makes great sense. I wonder however, if we don’t want to use this pick now in order to get as much mid-term mileage out of it as we can?

My thoughts exactly, though for different reasons. I don't know about all this singing and dancing that we're making the court conservative, some claiming for decades. That doesn't happen until one of the four liberal dissenters gives up a seat with Ginsburg being the favorite.

But who knows, there's no explicit mechanism to replace an incapacitated Justice, but impeachment remains an option with a willing Congress. So if one of the elder strokes out that will become a big political issue. My guess is the CJSCOTUS will become the likely decider and that slight constitutional defect will be rectified. (my opinion and based on facts that I believe are still true).

Trump's going to pick a reasonably conservative court member however selection has been 'iffy in such cases as when an whole ideological shift is to occur. One of the reasons why Kennedy was a swing vote, IMHO.

Completely agree.

Amy Barrett now and then Thapar when Ginsburg is out which is when the real fireworks are going to start (assuming the (R)'s hold the Senate!!!) because that's when a tectonic shift in the court will happen. A straight up socialist, feminist, leftist for a Constitutionalist, "textualist".

The nominations being the other way around would be a much more difficult fight because then the libs would have a more 1 for 1 argument coming down to legal philosophy only and really nothing else.

The (D)'s also wouldn't be able to say the court lost a female.
