Mexico’s new president doesn’t want Mexicans to have to immigrate to the US

Mexico elected a new president Sunday and his win should impact the U.S. debate over immigration.

In his acceptance speech Andrés Manuel López Obrador, vowed to root out corruption in Mexico, even if found among his friends and family. And he told Mexico’s poor that he would fight for them first. He also had a special message for immigrants.

He said those who want to “emigrate should do so for pleasure, not out of necessity.”

He said he would first work to tackle poverty in Mexico. An estimated 44 percent of Mexicans live below the poverty line and 7.6 percent in extreme poverty, according to Coneval, a Mexican social development agency.

“We will respect everyone. But we will give preference to the most humble and forgotten,” he said after being confirmed the winner by the current president Enrique Peña Nieto of the PRI party that lost power for the first time in 2000 and regained it in 2012.

Mexican presidents serve six years and cannot be re-elected.

This demented socialist will throw the Mexican economy into a dive. Impoverished, hungry, desperate migrants will seek to come to the US. Better build that wall quick and expand ICE.

Well, he’s correct - but I suspect he is also realizing it is going to be hard to carry out a Communist revolution in Mexico when most of his Communists are already in the United States. :)

“Finally, an admission the problem is in MEXICO and not the United States.”

Exactly, except I’m not sure his politics will allow him to fix the problems in Mexico.

Hasn’t he been saying it is their ‘right’ to invade the USA?
Maybe that was just to get the votes.

I hope no one is falling for socialist lies. They do the exact opposite of what they publicly say.

Will Mexico become like Venezuela? Stay tuned over the next few years. See if things unravel there.

If they do unravel, we can expect to have many refugees from Mexico trying to get into America.

It saddens me to think, that many intellectual types, still believe in socialism and think communism is a beautiful theory.

These types say that the reason that socialism and communism have failed everywhere, is because it just wasn’t implemented properly.

And they think if introduced into their country, this time, they are so smart, they will make it work as Marx and Engels intended.

Yes, embracing socialism will drag Mexico out of poverty just like it has every where else it has been tried. /s

Prayers up for the people of Mexico! May they long enjoy peace and freedom and have no reason to fear or flee their native state they love so dear.

He is of Spanish descent, fairly light skinned so acceptable to the upper class elites of Mexico. He is acceptable to the cartels or he would not have survived the election. He is a Socialist but Mexico has leaned that way all along.

If he bucks the system- which he would have to do in order to actually do anything for the poor it will get interesting in a hurry. If he actually tries to do anything about crime he will be assassinated.

I imagine he is another figurehead and will do very little but talk.

Will the socialist President allow foreign oil companies to invest in Mexican fossil fuels? Will the Mexican Socialist Pres. allow foreign investors to purchase land? Will the socialist Pres. use the military to go to war against the drug cartels? Will the socialist Pres. Allow local businesses to operate without having to pay protection moneys to the local gangs? Will the socialist Pres open up the economy to grow the gross national product.?

He said those who want to “emigrate should do so for pleasure, not out of necessity.”

I’m sure the Mexican government finds much “pleasure” in ridding themselves of their lower-class masses.”

OTOH, some may find it “pleasurable” to terminate, with extreme prejudice, the border crossing bastards who violate our country’s sovereignty.

If he really tries “rooting out corruption” he won’t live till Christmas.

The first step towards MMGFTFT (Make Mexico Great For The First Time). Trump should give him a hat and offer to use our military to eradicate the narcos that operate within 300 miles of our border.

This guy reads his bong water leaves every morning to form his daily opinion. His presidency will be colorful but unproductive. Maybe the next rich white guy president of Mexico will be better.

Good point. The narcos have lots of power in Mexico. They are better armed than the police and military in Mexico.

A case could be made that the narcos threaten to overthrow the government of Mexico eventually.

Imagine how many refugees there could be if things really get out of control in Mexico.
