Democrats’ playbook for stopping Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick
PolitiFact ^ | July 3, 2018 | Katie Akin and John Kruzel

As President Donald Trump moves closer to nominating a Supreme Court justice, Democrats are scrambling for a strategy to stop a nominee that would tilt the court in a more conservative direction and reverse liberal gains.

The retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy was a swing voter who at times sided with the court’s liberal and conservative wings. Trump now has the chance to alter the court’s ideological balance in a manner that could reshape fundamental aspects of American life.

(TWEET-AT-LINK)

Liberals fear their favored positions on everything from abortion rights to marriage equality to affirmative action could be threatened. Some also believe Trump could select a justice who would cast deciding votes on constitutional questions stemming from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, like whether a sitting president can be indicted or pardon himself.

Kennedy’s retirement means Democrats are now looking hard for a plan to block Trump’s pick, or delay a confirmation vote until after the November midterm election, where Democrats are within striking distance of retaking the Senate....

“Ideology” is the problem. When judges abided by and upheld the law, they were apolitical, and few people cared who was on the court. When they started making it up as they went, we had “ideology.” The term “abortion rights” is a gem of an invented ideology.

Considering HRC ran a presidential campaign based on the “Senator Joe McCarthy meme” -I’m don’t exactly understand what their problem with the world is this week.

Its all very confusing when dealing with these idiots

where Democrats are within striking distance of retaking the Senate....

They are delusional if they think "Democrats are within striking distance of retaking the Senate".

The path to Democrats retaking the Senate begins with: "First, Ted Cruz loses and Texas goes blue", and it gets even wackier after that.

Meanwhile, there are a bunch of red states that Trump won by big margins that have Democrat Senators.

The only viable one is flipping Murkowsky or Collins. Let’s see if we can also flip some Dems in red states like manchin. As for the one about trump being under investigation and therefore limited in his ability to appoint a justice, Clinton already did that when he had an IG looking at him, so not only is there no basis in law for it, but the article omits that there is precedent against it.

The irony le liberals who rammed their perverted values down our throats through an activist liberal judiciary, now fear all of that could be reversed.

Like the old saying comes to mind here, “what comes around goes around,•

And two can play the game.

We need an analysis of the Dem playbook? Really?

Let's see: "attack, lie, vilify, lie, disparage, lie, sully, lie..."

Pretty much sums it up.

I would imagine that the Dems are really, po'd at Schumer for filibustering Gorsuch and using up the super majority card.

So Scchumer will hgave to pretend it never happened because of him and come up with another genius move.

Some pretty wild suggestions in the article.

The Democrats are between a ROCK and a HARD PLACE.

They have an election coming up where many Senate Seats are in jeopardy. Not voting for the President’s choice will be used against them in November.

So they want to delay the vote, but what if the RED WAVE is real, and what if the Republicans pick up more Senate seats, then the President might select an even move conservative justice for the court.

So like the last two years, the Democrats are suffering and I am smiling.

If congress creeps weren’t only interested in getting re-elected, they might make decisions that are best for the country. But getting re-elected means letting people legally kill their kids and get free shit.

The ways to get more R voters to the polls is to nominate a working mom with a stellar resume’. Let’s see the push back when the Rats go after her.

The dems are frantic as dimsburg won’t last till the end of Trumps term.
They are practicing for that battle. A conservative court for the next 20 years, one that isn’t afraid to slap down the 9th again and again.

The left (and squishy RINO’s) hope that they can bully Trump into a moderate or compromise nominee. Trump should find the most conservative man he can and nominate him with a stern warning: “Approve this nomination or my next pick will be twice as conservative”!

And then follow through...

Not an IG, but rather a Special Prosecutor.

Janet Reno appointed Robert B. Fiske as special prosecutor to the Whitewater Controversy In January 1994.

Bill Clinton appointed Stephen Breyer to the Supreme Court in April 1994 and he was confirmed by the Senate in July.

In August, Ken Star took over the Whitewater investigation from Fiske.
