Still I wonder how many World Cups a UK team would have won. Imagine Georgie Best in his prime on a UK team.

Freepers who know me that was sarcasm

I am probably the last man standing here who would never do the Body Snatchers stare “you’re a racist”

I don’t care who’s a racist....not at all

We are way past all that

I’ll alllow a racist in my redoubt especially if he has ammo

The European finalists are curiously unbalanced geographically - three of the teams hail from Western Europe and only one is from post-Communist Eastern Europe.

Regionalism rears its head in the World Cup.

Especially with all the injuries suffered by the Croatian team.

I said if Russia won it should be called “The Napoleon Invitational”

Looks like it might be France vs England.

No, no. I knew you were sarcastically repeating the normal lefty talking point. It’s just that this time around Western nations winning couldn’t possibly be blamed on racism like normal. Even though, like the article said, only European teams are in the semi-finals, the remaining teams taken together are diverse. Even the all-white Croatian team has players who were born in other countries.

Even France’s greatest player before the Zidane era was an Italian, Michel Platini.

“Ann can stuff it.”

Regarding this topic, I couldn’t agree with you more.

I just can’t watch American football anymore. Just can’t. Was at a college game earlier this year. Nationally televised, so between the normal timeouts and TV timeouts, and the delay between downs and change of possession, it seemed to last forever. I’m not putting down anyone who likes it. Just putting my two cents in.

Football is racist because its a DEWM sport.

I invite you to figure the acronym out.

The rides on the Eurostar this week should be real interesting.

Football has no commercial breaks and I can put up with 90 plus minutes of action.

The watch parties in London and Paris are to die for - should they happen next Sunday.

Exactly, which is one reason I love football/soccer. 45 minutes a half - give or take a few minutes of add-on stoppage time, no timeouts, no commercial breaks, and a short half-time without some ‘half-time show’.

Interesting. I didn’t know that. One might wonder what the French have against native Frenchmen.

Every Icelandic player and substitutes ended with an “son” at the end of their surname except for one.

They all looked kind of alike too. :)

No African teams either.

This is why the Euro Tournaments (played every Leap Year) are on the same or maybe a level superior to the World Cup.

“France won in 1998.”

Correct. I was there, the biggest party in Paris since the end of World War II. At least that’s what I’ve been told.

It was quite a party. I climbed atop the Bastille with many others. Quite a sight of thousands and one gigantic party.
