Anti-Gun Protesters Shut Down Major Chicago Highway
Breitbart ^ | 7 Jul 2018 | Katherine Rodriguez

Thousands of anti-gun protesters shut down lanes of a major Chicago highway to pressure lawmakers to enact gun control measures to address the increase in violent deaths in the city.

The left-wing protesters, led by the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Catholic priest Father Michael Pfleger, shut down all northbound lanes of Chicago’s Dan Ryan Expressway on Interstate 94 Saturday morning after a standoff between the police and the demonstrators.

The marchers carried signs that read, “We need jobs,” and chanted, “Stop the killing,” as they walked down the 1.5-mile stretch of highway to let lawmakers know their desire for better schools, more jobs, and stronger gun control laws to combat the violence in their communities.

Some children even stopped to use chalk to write the words, “Enough is enough,” along the highway route.

“When people keep ignoring you, you take it up a notch,” Pfleger said. “We are going to continue to take it up a notch until we get responses.”

The Illinois State Police reached an agreement with the demonstrators early Saturday morning that the protesters could take up two northbound lanes and allow traffic to pass through the other two lanes.

Gov. Bruce Rauner’s office said in a statement that protesters who ignored the boundaries set by highway workers would face arrest and possible prosecution.

But Pfleger and other protesters ignored the warnings, saying they would occupy the entire northbound section of the highway.

After hearing of the chaotic situation that led to the shutdown of the highway, Rauner tweeted his disappointment in Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel for not controlling the protesters.

Why don’t they go march and shut down some drug-dealing corners?

Oh, big brave protesters.

"to pressure lawmakers to enact gun control measures to address the increase in violent deaths in the city."

Aren't guns already illegal in Chicago?

Not sure how keeping innocent bystanders stuck in their cars on a summer Saturday is supposed to win over people to their cause, but, hey, these are liberals!

Are you crazy? That would be far too dangerous for these libtard Soros employees. Besides the news media wouldn't go in most of those locations either so they wouldn't get the PR that they were depending upon.

Calling for more gun control,in Chicago!?!? --snort--.

And money of course! That's what it's always about at the end of the day.

My favorite line from the story:
“Emanuel quickly fired back at the Illinois governor, tweeting that he should “delete” his account for criticizing the “peaceful” protest.”

Pro-life marchers should ask for the same access. When denied, sue the State.

No, please catch-up on the topic before posting further. A quick google search would've shown that.

Good. Shut it down everyday. They will get a response they might not like.

Rahm Emmanuel isn't even a useful idiot anymore.

"peaceful" for who? The tens of thousands of motorists who were prevented from getting to where they needed to go?

Would someone please explain to me what gun control has to getting these losers a job? Maybe if they would have actually applied themselves while in school they would have a job OR move to a city that outlaws guns where surely there are an abundance of jobs.

"The marchers carried signs that read, “We need jobs,”..."

During record-low unemployment. Ever think of actually looking for a job?

How is the government supposed to create more jobs? Are they magicians? All the gov’t jobs around there already appear to be filled with people just like them. So what then? They’re going to continue shutting down highways and make Joe and Jill public suffer right along with them? I can’t believe the authorities are willing to give them “lanes” on a public highway. It’s for AUTOMOBILES and gets congested enough as it is I’m sure!

“When people keep ignoring you, you take it up a notch,” Pfleger said. “We are going to continue to take it up a notch until we get responses.”

That he remains a "priest" is damning to the Catholic Church....when did they decide that there were many more important things than preaching the Gift of Christ on the Cross and what it meant for us all???

The problem with Pfleger is that if he were disciplined, he would just found his own schismatic church, the way that black priest in D.C. did. Also, what he is doing — while it’s not his job and gives scandal — may not be prosecutable under canon law. (IANA(c)L)

Funny how they have these marches in Chicago and Toronto but not in places like Vermont or New Hampshire or Maine or Montana or the Dakotas or Switzerland even.

The Governor tweets a criticism of a disruptive protest and the major tells him to delete his account? Typical leftist wanting to shut up his opponents.

I will start the argument. Literally insane or extremely unstable people are killing maybe-not-so-insane-or-unstable-people and they are using any means available. Fix the people or get them help and release after sanity returns or keep them under control but don’t blame guns for pulling their own triggers.

And speaking of Chicago: I will not ever visit Chicago or Detroit or any other “Sanctuary” city. Their murderous reputations are horrendous and they generally don’t honor concealed carry. I have a legal right to carry my gun and I will do so on my or our American citizen legal terms.

An old, old lady

Thru 7/3, the 2018 Chicago homicide clearance rate has been an amazing 14.2% * so they're protesting the wrong people and things in the wrong place.

https://heyjackass.com/home/

*The clearance rate is a calculation of Total Homicide Suspects Charged/(Total Homicides – Police involved – Self Defense – Murder/Suicides). Regardless of how many people are charged in relation to a single homicide, it’s only counted as one suspect for calculation purposes. The rate has nothing to do with criminal proceedings and convictions (or lack thereof).
