Jimmy Carter: Jesus Would 'Approve' of Gay Marriage, Some Abortions
Breitbart ^ | July 9, 2018 | Thomas D. Williams, Ph.D.

Posted on 07/09/2018 8:16:05 AM PDT by Zakeet

Speaking of his faith, Mr. Carter said in his career as a politician he never ran across "any really serious conflicts between my political obligations and my religious faith."

Asked about gay marriage, he replied that it is "no problem with me. I think everybody should have a right to get married regardless of their sex."

Regarding whether he thinks Jesus would approve of gay marriage, Carter replied "I don’t have any verse in Scripture," but added, "I believe that Jesus would approve of gay marriage."

"I think Jesus would encourage any love affair if it was honest and sincere and was not damaging to anyone else and I don't see that gay marriage damages anyone else," he said.

Absurdity from the chronically absurd.

If he believes so strongly in homosexual marriage, why didn’t he push it back when he was president?

Why didn’t he push it as a prominent former president in the late 90s and early 2000s, when this was a prominent issue, if he feels that strongly about it?

So if Scripture is silent on something, that means Jesus would approve?

I don’t have any scriptural references but I don’t think Jesus would approve of Jimmy Carter.

I worked in this administration and it’s successor. Believe me, back then this man was pretty conservative, if somewhat feckless. He was promoted beyond his capability. They say he was a decent governor in Georgia. I blame senility and too much hobnobbing with the Left for the nonsense in this article. The Jimmy Carter of 1978 would’ve never said such a thing.

Jesus said he came to preach ‘The Word’, understood to be the Old Testament, which had quite a lot to say about homosexuality and the like.

"Mr. Carter said in his career as a politician he never ran across "any really serious conflicts between my political obligations and my religious faith."

That's pretty easy to do when you are willing to compromise your faith to accommodate your ambition.

There are many more, and these are from the New Testament only

Romans 1:26-27 ESV / 5,220 helpful votes

For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

Jude 1:7 ESV / 4,714 helpful votes

Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 ESV / 4,656 helpful votes

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Timothy 1:10 ESV / 3,430 helpful votes

The sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,

Romans 1:27 ESV / 3,356 helpful votes

And the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

The Jesus that said you’ve committed murder if you have anger in your heart ... would be OK with some abortions? Jimmy hasn’t a clue.

His “Christian belief” is quite a bit different from 1976

He’s gone from “lusting” to “disgusting”

Yes, I remember when he still believed in the concept of committing adultery in one’s heart, per Scripture. I think you’re right about too much hobnobbing with leftists. That’s the risk of not being a rugged individualist when it comes to standing on principle.

MOST politicians “compartmentalize” their faith. In fact, it is placed on the back shelf and only utilized when necessary.

So, Jesus would believe that Mary should have had the right to abort Him. NO Christian can support human abortion.
