Mueller team asks judge to stop Manafort from using ‘selective prosecution’ argument

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s team on Monday reportedly requested a federal judge prevent former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort from arguing at his trial that he’s the subject of selective prosecution.

Bloomberg reported that prosecutors for Mueller asked U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson to stop Manafort from arguing that the special counsel targeted him for “vindictive reasons.”

The news outlet reported that prosecutors also requested Berman block Manafort from providing evidence that shows he was investigated, but not charged, prior to Mueller’s appointment last summer.

Mueller’s team argued that any suggestion that the special counsel “resurrected” old charges would be misleading because it would indicate the Justice Department had concluded its original investigation.

Manafort has pleaded not guilty to charges of bank fraud and money laundering, among others. His trial is set to begin in September in Northern Virginia.

Manafort's lawyers argued in a filing Friday that his trial should be moved to Roanoke, Va., because Northern Virginia is saturated with media coverage and he would not be able to get a fair trial.

Manafort and his legal team have thus far unsuccessfully argued for the charges to be dismissed on the grounds that Mueller lacked the authority to bring the charges against him.

Jackson sent Manafort to jail last month after Mueller's team requested she revoke his pretrial release conditions. Prosecutors said Manafort tried to tamper with potential witnesses by persuading them to lie to investigators about lobbying work for former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

Manafort is one of four former Trump associates to face indictment or plead guilty thus far in Mueller’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Mueller wants to deny Manafort the means to defend himself.

And Manafort is selectively in jail, and selectively in solitary isolation.

If the judge rules for Mueller, this case will be on appeal for years. I mean the solitary confinement of Manafort is an effort to suborn perjury in relation to PDJT.Mueller is crooked as hell, an expert obscurer of exculpatory evidence which has led to wrongful convictions in some of his cases.

This is all a Kangaroo Court.

There’s been no trial, yet Manafort languishes in jail with no bail.

Manafort is a Political Prisoner.

Seems to me one Hillary Rotten Clinton attempted something similar with Nixon during Watergate, and was terminated for her lying, and manipulations. It’s a slimy Democrat thing I guess.

[Why aren’t the Podestas being charged?]

Because of ‘selective prosecution’ for vindictive liberal Democrat political reasons.

(yes you were asking rhetorically but to post it plainly in the thread....)

President DJT keeps Mueller/Rosenstein going... keeps them in business.. when all he has to do is say You’re Fired

(where’s the investigation of the Saudi and other Moslem enemy funding of HilLIARy, reportedly over $200 million during her campaign... also of all the damage the DNC Puppetmeister SorozNazi has caused, imho?
All we get is Mueller and Company eating up our tax money... for what? He’s produced ZERO evidence of any substantive crimes, ZERO, and all he’s done is brought some apparently totally bs charges.. misuse of legal process...itself a punishable offense. Let’s have a serious investigation of Mueller and Company! )

I thought the judge had already said this is selective persecution(no I didnt misspell the word). He said that Mueller was just trying to squeeze Mueller.

The more Mueller demands, the more this hack judge grants him, will be all the reasons any conviction gets overturned on appeal.

Isn’t Judge Ellis presiding over a Manafort trial as well? Or is that another Trump related person they are trying to nail? I am having a hard time keeping all these biased witch hunts straight. This particular judge (Amy Berman Jackson) seems to be quite willing to give Mueller et al anything they want. Ellis, on the other hand, plays hardball.
