Protesters clashed with police Monday in Haiti's capital while a general strike kept most people at home across the country in a fourth day of unrest sparked by a now-rescinded government plan to raise fuel prices in the impoverished nation.

Demonstrators linked to various opposition factions marched on the parliament building but were turned back by police. Protesters also set fire to a tax office in the Tabarre area of the capital.

I wonder if the American church members, including children, are still trapped in the hotel? Little to no coverage by US media.

Have someone with a very heavy hand, because that is all they understand(some day liberals and Democrats will acknowledge that there are just some people that do not respond to kindness or an open hand, as they should), and restore some order. Then get on every single solitary television station on the planet and invite the clinton’s and all the folks who run their charity and have them explain what they did to that country. If they’re not willing to, prosecute them and take out international arrest warrants on the both of them. Raise so much damn hell that it makes their lives a living hell.

Can you imagine the field day the President would be having w/ Twitter, if that happened?

I’ve read about 6 articles on this and none of them say what the pre- and post-increase fuel prices are. Even if the percentages are unchanged, it’s one thing to go from $.50/gal to $1/gal versus $2/gal to $4/gal, especially in a country with such low income/capita. Does anyone have the numbers?

There will be demands the US 'DO SOMETHING!'

After a semblance of order is restored and we leave, left wing Democrats will claim the imperialist intervention made things worse for Haitians.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

OK, so much is gas in Haiti now?

You’d think that factoid would made it in the article somewhere.

Well, let’s see... Haiti has no oil deposits. Haiti has no refinery capacity. Haiti has no intellectual capital from which to build, manage and operate refineries. I’m guessing they get it by pipeline form the slightly more advanced Dominican Republic, but I could be wrong and they may be receiving fully refined fuels by ship.

I lived in South FL and met some of the most remarkably capable and accomplished Haitian expatriates there. Really exceptionally fine people. What is left behind is a shame.

But, the fact that this is percolating up as we are confirming a new Justice to the SCOTUS, is a reminder that constitutions matter, and fundamental property rights mater. Where you do not have protected rights in property - you have chaos like this.

The government’s plans ignited a powder keg of long-simmering resentments. Within hours of its July 6 announcement that gasoline prices would rise by 38 percent, diesel by 47 percent and kerosene by 51 percent starting almost immediately, mass protests had erupted that eventually left at least four dead, including the bodyguard of an opposition politician.

At least Slick Willy should visit his kids and their Haitian Mothers - he could write it off as a Business trip for the Clinton Foundation...

Haiti is the ultimate dysfunctional country. Very poor education level, deep seated corruption, natural disasters, few natural resources. Their only strategy seems to keep exporting surplus population to Canada and America. I believe Haiti is an irresolvable problem.

What?! The govt. sets fuel prices?! Sounds like Socialism to me.

But that can't be, can it? I mean: Everyone knows that socialist countries are paradises.

Also: Why doesn't Al Gore fly there and hold a lecture, exhorting them to "go green?"

Regards,

“Protesters also set fire to a tax office”

The Haitians really want Trump to like them, don’t they?
