Somehow Manchin is polling well in West Virginia. I trust the people of West Virginia do the right thing and vote him out, regardless of how he is trying to use the Supreme Court pick to get votes.

Joe Manchin's retail political skill shouldn't be underestimated. Around election time he can pull the "good ole country boy" act really well, complete with flannel shirts, hunting rifle and pickup truck. It doesn't help that his opponent is a New Jersey native so in his TV ads he's been really pushing the "he's not one of us" "carpetbagger" card. He could lose, but it really wouldn't shock me if he won either. There are a lot of otherwise conservative voters that eat his phony bologna act up.

Is he one of the red state dems that needs to tread lightly on this subject?

You dambetcha!

But for those wanting him to change parties, be careful what you wish for. He's another Bill Clinton.

Better he should just lose to Patrick Morrissey in November.

Once it becomes clear that the Rep has the 50 votes, all the Red State Democrats who are running for reelection will vote in favor, because why stick your neck out for a symbolic no that won’t stop his nomination any way which can cost you your election?

I agree. Once Republicans lock in 50 votes for confirmation, Schumer will give the red state democrats like Manchin, Donnelly and Heidikamp a pass to vote to confirm. Because if Kavanaugh is going to be confirmed anyway, why risk sacrificing 3 or 4 senate seats just to trim the final margin of victory? Where it would really get interesting is if somehow Republican were 1 or 2 votes short and these democrat Senators would actually mean the difference between confirmation or rejection. Then Schumer would have a very hard decision to make, put pressure on these Senators to vote down the nomination, with the risk that they lose in November and Republicans get their nominee anyway when the now solid Republican Senate is seated next year, or give them a pass to vote for Kavanaugh with the calculus being that saving their senate seats is more important than defeating Kavanaugh. Of course that would send the liberal base into apocalyptic rage....

Don’t forget all the trailers that will be placed in prominent locations around the state. They will have a banner on the side that says “MANCHIN”

But when you open them up, they are as empty as he is.

I think Wyoming and Utah usually take turns winning that one (in fact, I was wrong and Wyoming had the largest Trump margin in 2016). Oklahoma has been either 2nd or 3rd in the last three presidential elections.

This. But it’d be good if he came on over.

Donald Trump is more popular today than he was when he won West Virginia by 40% in 2016.

He also has a proven ability to energize his supporters to go to the polls, and he’ll be holding many campaign rallies this fall — including in West Virginia if necessary to help the Republican Senatorial candidate there.

So does it make sense to assume that Joe Manchin can assure his re-election simply by voting for Brett Kavanaugh?

No, and that’s probably true of all the other Democrats running in Red states.

But the Democratic-controlled media must keep alive the myth that multiple Democratic Senators won’t lose in November — because if the possibility of a Democratic take-over of Congress is zero, how will the Democrats be able to continue to raise millions from Wall Street bankers and other fat cats fearful of being punished if the Democrats win?

So be prepared to be inundated with breathless speculations by the media about Heidi Heitkamp, John Manchin, etc., and their irrelevant intentions relative to voting on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination.

I’m confident at least a few Democrat Senators are going to refuse to fall on their sword as ordered by Chuckles. He can huff and puff and all but 6 years is a long time and the Democrats need every vote in the Senate they can get so I don’t really think he’s got much leverage over those in Red States who are in tough re-election battles.

Yeah Manchin you better since Trump won West VA with a margin of 42%.

I wonder if he was from NY or CA, if he would support K? I bet he said it because he is fighting for his political life.
