So much for Democrats coming together in New Yorks 14th congressional district.
A feud erupted Thursday on Twitter between Democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and outgoing Democratic Rep. Joseph Crowley -- the longtime congressman Ocasio-Cortez shockingly defeated in New Yorks primaries last month. The victor claimed the incumbent is now mounting a third-party bid.
.@repjoecrowley stated on live TV that he would absolutely support my candidacy, Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Thursday. Instead, hes stood me up for all 3 scheduled concession calls.
The 28-year-old progressive Democrat added: Now, hes mounting a 3rd party challenge against me and the Democratic Party- and against the will of @NYWFP.

That's a shame.
Crowley may win if he actually tries. He only lost to her because of the abysmal turnout, he’d never have lost that primary with a general election turnout. She got all of 16,000 votes.
I would imagine this will only increase her momentum as people will vote just to spite Crowley’s cranky-old-man move.
Interesting.
Good race, I think.
Anyone familiar with GOP strength in the district? Is it greater than 1/3rd? If these two yokels evenly split the vote in November, there could be an opening for a Republican to sneak in.
The R in this race is a weak candidate, unfortunately. I wouldn’t be surprised if the final November election votes end up close between Ocasio-Cortez and Crowley, despite what Crowley is saying, now. She should lose for being anti-semitic!
Every GOPer in the district must vote for Crowley on the WFP line. If she is defeated it will tear the Dem party apart.
Or they could vote for the actual GOP candidate, Anthony Pappas. I wonder if he's bothered to file his FEC paperwork yet to accept campaign donations? He doesn't seem to be taking his run too seriously. I think he just assumed Crowley would be his Democratic opponent and he'd lose in a landslide.
In Primaries, it's usually an abysmal turnout. In 2014, only 14k voted in the Dem Primary for the NY-14 State House seat. Crowley was usually unopposed, so no Primary vote counts for or against him since 1999. This year, it was 16k to 12k. Crowley had 10 times the campaign cash ($300k to $30k) and spending ($100k to $10k).
(Interesting note: Democratic Congressman Thomas J. Manton retired from the Congress in 1999, having already filed for and circulated petitions for reelection. He withdrew on the last day it was legally possible to do so and arranged for Crowley, his chosen successor, to replace him on the ballot. Crowley wasn't aware of this until Manton phoned him to tell him his name would be on the general election ballot.)
(Note #2: Crowley is 56, but looks 76. He first got elected to NY State House seat when he was 25, and stayed there for 11 years before hitting the US House seat for the past 20 years. Graduated from Queens College with a PoliSci degree at 23. Never held a real job.)
In 2016, Frank Spotorno (R) got 30,545 votes (17%) to Joseph Crowley (D) 147, 587 (82.9%).
However, there were certainly Italians who voted for their homeboy instead of the Mick, which brought the Republican numbers up somewhat.
In 2014, there was no Republican candidate. In 2012, the Republican got 12%.
Donald Trump got 22% of the vote in the 2016 Presidential election in NY 14.
As I have often said, Trump was, in effect, elected by Democrats. If Trump's numbers had been made up only of Republican voters, he would have been crushed.
It's usually 83% to 17% in NY-14 for the Dem. Given a choice between a sympathy vote the latest GOP sacrificial lamb, and possibly fracturing the Democrat Party nationally, the wise GOP voter in eastern Manhattan will go for Crowley.
He could get off the ballot by accepting a judgeship, but from what he says it would have to be in a place where he doesn’t live right now. It’s been done before.
“Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Changes Her Bio, Still Lying About Her Past”
“She got all of 16,000 votes.”
If I recall, Joe Lieberman lost in the Democratic primary and went on to win back his seat as an independent. There is precedent, and, I suspect, all Casio will get in the main election is 16,000 votes.
I don’t understand why he’s on the ballot for a different party.
Castro was celebrated as the leader to bring peace and prosperity to Cuba.. then he proclaimed he was a communist.. and a dictator ...no peace and no prosperity..
Socialism never works for the people.. it destroys everything in its path.
