Bases in San Antonio still have significant capacity to host a major command HQ. This doesn’t smell right.
Fort Hood is about an hour from Austin (70 miles). Plenty of room out there for testing/training in a secure environment.
When I was at Fort Bliss, new weapons were tested at various sites in New Mexico, beyond McGregor Range. Some were a 60 minute drive each way (Orogrande NM).
