McConnell: I Will Not Be Intimidated By Open-Borders Socialists, "I Enjoyed My Lunch"

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Friday that he wouldn't be "intimidated" by protesters who have confronted him in public several times this year.

"I'm not sure what about my career has led them to believe that I am easily intimidated. ... This is all about intimidation. It's not about persuasion but about intimidation. And I assure you I will not be intimidated by these groups of socialists who apparently prefer open borders," McConnell told reporters in Kentucky.

McConnell and his wife, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, were confronted as they left an event near Washington last month by protesters over supporting detained families who were caught crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally.

Protesters heckled McConnell again at two restaurants in Kentucky over the weekend, according to the Courier Journal, urging him to look at abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

"Honestly, I enjoyed my lunch and I'm just sorry that other people at the restaurant seemed to be inconvenienced by all of this. But it's not about persuasion. It's about intimidation. I will not be intimidated by these people," McConnell added on Friday.

I might share your sentiment, if it weren't for his dropping the ball on Obamacare repeal.

Even with the elimination of the individual mandate, it's still the law of the land.

And with the Republicans controlling (for now) the congress and the WH, that's an outrage.

It’s a good thing I do not care what Hillary lovers think, then. I am so sorry your feelings were hurt.

What’s the old saying?

I am glad he enjoyed his lunch this time because liberals have been eating his lunch for years.

Is Mitch actually growing a set? Must be all that hanging out with Trump. He does have that effect on people.

It is possible his testicles finally dropped. I don’t know.
In some cases, like Paul Ryan, it’s hopeless.

I agree with you. Ultimately, for all of his faults, that one move right there may have saved the republic. Not only would that have given the liberals a majority, it might’ve thrown a wet blanket on our votes in the 2016 election, thereby permanently securing that majority.

"I must be in the minority, but I still am grateful to Mitch McConnell......."

I believe many thoughtful conservatives are in agreement with you.

He did the right thing, the smart thing on the Scalia vacancy. He made a lot of enemies on both sides of the aisle in the process, but it was the best thing for conservative minded Americans.

I don't agree with all of his actions but neither do I agree with all of Our President Trump's actions, but McTurtle has been a force right along with Senator Grassley in regard to the courts.

Court appointments are one of the most important duties of any president and the Grassley/McConnell team has done very well in that regard.
