Russian World Cup Hailed as “Best Ever”.....

The President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) Gianni Infantino has praised the 2018 Football World Cup in Russia as the most successful in history.

“Since [a] couple of years I was saying that this would be the best World Cup ever; today I can say it with even more conviction because I lived it and you lived it. It is the best World Cup ever. Thank you Russia!”.......

FIFA’s head also stated,......“The legacy of this World Cup will put Russia on the top of the countries in terms of football around the world”.

The presence of teams from nations not known as football champions in the late stages of the tournament, comfortable stadiums, plentiful leisure facilities for fans and a welcoming atmosphere from the Russian people all combined to make the 2018 World Cup one for the ages in the eyes of football fans and now FIFA’s President.

Prior to the World Cup western media outlets and particularly those in Britain attempted to paint Russia as a dangerous country that would be systematically unwelcoming to football fans from abroad. The reality has not only shamed the scare-mongering reports but has helped to show the true face of Russia to fans from throughout the world.

That’s like saying yesterday was the most exciting day in watching grass grow ever.

This was also stated directly to Putin at their meeting.....saying “we didn’t know Russia....now we do”.

Though good to put up something positive about Russian people in light of Trumps meeting on monday.

Based on what happened for the Sochi Winter Olympics going in, I had doubts about how Russia would do.

They did great! Hopefully seeing the impact of tourism will be a positive for Russia, be nice if they made it easier to get visas to travel there.

Others did as well....but they certainly pulled this off very well as many now decrying news that tried to say otherwise.

Seldom we see Putin really smile but when the Pres. of the fifa told him this it was very obvious Putin was happy...

Actually it has been a very successful and well-run World Cup. Since I’ve PERMANENTLY bailed from professional American football, my wife has succeeded in making a soccer fan of me. I’m looking forward to watching it tomorrow.

My students in my Russian civil war class knew the position and significance of Kazan, Samara, and Yekaterinburg.

I was thinking along similar lines. World Cup was a money-maker for Russia. The Olympics…maybe not so much. None of the Olympic’s overhead by comparison, that’s for sure!

There’s just one Russian that knows how to celebrate winning the Cup.

And that is Alex Ovechkin.

His partying exploits are setting a new standard.

The US has a professional rugby league now. Union rules. I thoroughly enjoyed FIFA this year and i am not a big soccer fan. Got into rugby 2years ago. International 7s tournament in Glendale CO in August. Also learned mahjongg this year.

Russia is a spectacularly beautiful country with epic arts, athletics, culture, and the most vibrant people in the world. I’ve been a lifelong Russophile ever since seeing my first ballet (Swan Lake, front row) at Lincoln Center in New York at the age of 3 and danced into my 20s.

But just because the BBC and lamestream US media has such an immature approach to understanding the country, doesn’t change the fact that beneath the facades of spectacle, there linger a lot of deep wounds and demons that dictate how the government behaves, and reveal how the population has yet to overcome the traumas and dramas of their brutal past. And there are consequences.

It’s a shame also illiteracy abounds regarding the dynamics of Russia’s development following 1991 and that Americans are so detached from recognizing our own role — good and bad, not just in the Cold War, but our ongoing one we’re to play in the world moving forward as the Western world’s been thrown into crisis — largely due to failing to make sense of the past.

My grandson went to Russia for the World Cup. He traveled to St. Petersburg first then onto Moscow. Made friends with some fun Russian guys and was asked to join them to drink vodka shots while sitting in a park. He said it was wonderful!

I follow the All-Ireland Gaelic Football competition. I’ve adopted Mayo as my team.

I’ve watched a lot of homemade YouTube videos from fans there, they’re all having a great time, have nothing but good things to say about the time they’re having. I bet Red Square must be a blast.

Growing up, I despised the Soviet Union, I don’t feel the same way towards modern Russia. I see them more as a rival, and not an enemy.

None of that appeared to get in the way of the Russian people welcoming those from other countries. Obvious the older generations might have difficulty with old bruises etc. but it’s a different generation now who want to be accepted and let the past be in the past.
