In about 20 years, half the population will live in eight states (WaPo is whining)
Washington Post ^ | July 12, 2018 | Philip Bump

Posted on 07/15/2018 8:42:28 PM PDT by tom h

The Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service of the University of Virginia analyzed Census Bureau population projections to estimate each state’s likely population in 2040, including the expected breakdown of the population by age and gender ... we see that, in fact, the [US] population will be heavily centered in a few states.

Eight states will have just under half of the total population of the country, 49.5 percent, according to the Weldon Cooper Center’s estimate. The next eight most populous states will account for an additional fifth of the population, up to 69.2 percent — meaning that the 16 most populous states will be home to about 70 percent of Americans ...

... [the] point is clear: 30 percent of the population of the country will control 68 percent of the seats in the U.S. Senate. Or, more starkly, half the population of the country will control 84 percent of those seats ...

So the Washington Post is now crying that federalism just isn't fair; that smaller states will decline in population but will continue to dominate the Senate; also that these same states are too white.

Cry me a river.

Norman Ornstein and others are constantly crying about this “racist” and “unjust” reality on Twitter. Of course NO ONE is stopping liberals and/or minorities from moving into these evil, white states.

Maybe if she lasts long enough, Ruth "Buzzi" Ginsburg can fix that problem. She believes in a romantic judiciary that can just fix societal problems by fiat, to hell with the constitution. Had Hillary won, we would already be in this situation.

Federalism is absolutely essential to preserve freedom and equal representation in the US. Families in a rural farming community who get up at 5:00 am every day, feed their animals, and work hard doing what they need to do to sustain their farms should be able to define what’s best for their lives, without being ‘overruled’ by a bunch of people in Manhattan who think that life revolves around NYC. I’m not criticizing those who live in the city. I was born, raised, and spent a big part of my life so far in major cities. But every part of America that is different form other parts deserves to have their America preserved - independent of what major population centers may think.

Yes, two senators per state...

I note that the WP seems quite perplexed by the idea two Senators will come from each state, meaning each state gets equal representation.

For some reason they have a disconnect when you realize this is essentially how the U. N., the W. T. O., and the plan for the North American Union would have played out.

When our nation is the big state, and Zimbabwe is the small state, they’re just thrilled to have us on equal footing.

And half of all minorities will “work” for the federal government.
What a great future to look forward to.

Illinois? Someone’s been hitting the halucigens. I and a whole lot of other productive people plan to no longer support the malignant parasitic tumor on the northeast corner of the state when we retire.

Major population centers think the hinterland exists only to serve the big cities at the least possible cost. That is classic Marxism as practiced by Lenin &Co.

30 percent of the population of the country will control 68 percent of the seats in the U.S. Senate.

That's pretty close to the Pareto 80/20 rule of thumb. Without knowing anything you can guess 80% of the people will live in 20% of the states, and 20% of the people will control 80% of the whatever, be it the Senate, land, money, women, etc. The Pareto principle is a property of the Universe, and it's why no matter what the leftists try, their attempts to level life's outcomes equally always fails.

I have trouble seeing California maintaining it’s population over the next twenty years. I could easily see them losing two or three million residents in that period.

Yeah. Ironically, California, New York, and Florida have amongst the highest illiteracy rates in the US.

I see it the other way around. Mexico is going to continue to contribute to population growth in Calif., especially if the new Marxist president of Mexico gets his way.
