A former Kenner police officer was sentenced to 90 days of inactive probation after he pleaded guilty to stealing money from five Hispanic drivers during traffic stops.

Jan Gregory, 34, pleaded guilty Monday (July 16) to five counts of misdemeanor theft, according to Jefferson Parish court records.

Gregory resigned from the Kenner Police Department on Feb. 22, 2017, after just over four years with the agency, when investigators confronted him with allegations that he'd been stealing money from Hispanic motorists he pulled over for driving without a license, authorities said.

Gregory is accused of taking a total of $3,500 from the five men between Jan. 20 and Feb. 5, 2017, court records said.

There was another local PD who was shaking down Hispanics a few years after Katrina. He got a slap on the wrist as well.

Two sets of laws folks.

That’s all? Crime most certainly pays. Did he claim this money on his tax returns?

$3,500 total is a misdemeanor?

If you steal from walmart I think it’s around 4 or 5 hundred. Go figure.

Here in the Midwest I’ve heard (dunno) that it’s around $700 or $750.

I guess the corruption in some places adjusts the bar...../sorta joking

Kenner.

There’s a place if I never see again it will be too soon.

Seems like a pretty light sentence for being a dirty cop.

$3,500.

So, the average amount of cash these five guys were carrying was at least $700.

Sounds like more than just a drivers license check was going on here.

Skimming off drug profits?

If he lost his job and is marked as someone who can’t work in law enforcement again, I’d be okay with it.

Illegals who drive without licences open themselves to this sort of corruption. The officer reasons they are not going to report the theft,

I’m not sure what the felony limit is in LA, but it’s usually around a few hundred to a couple of thousand dollars elsewhere, so I think he needs a fatter charge. However, he didn’t steal it all from any one of them, so perhaps it’s just a case by case thing.

In any case, what about abuse of authority, or a host of other charges? Cops do not like creeps like this. Even though Louisiana has had massively corrupt police departments, particularly in NOLA but throughout the state, they’re trying to clean up now and this is not good for the cops.

Yes there are many things he should have been charged with.

He didn’t steal a laptop from Wal-Mart.....

Officer is just making them feel at home here in the States, payoff is the way it works “down south” of the border.

The scene in “We’re the Millers” when they have to pay off the Mexican cop to pass with their RV full of pot makes me ROFL every time.
