Is Ron DeSantis surging over Adam Putnam? Some think so
Orlando Sentinel ^ | Jul 18, 2018 | Mark Skoneki

The latest independent polls done last month in the Republican race for Florida governor had Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam with a comfortable lead over U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis.

But now, according to a report in the Tampa Bay Times, there’s a growing feeling that DeSantis is gaining fast on Putnam.

If so, the move would be reminiscent of Rick Scott’s overtaking of Bill McCollum in 2010. Like Putnam this year, McCollum was the establishment GOP candidate, only to have Scott soar past him for the nomination.

This year, though, the biggest factor in the DeSantis surge seems to be the President Donald Trump’s endorsement of him over Putnam.

Putnam is counterattacking by saying that he, too, supports Trump’s policies. But it’s not yet clear if that will work with Republican voters in the Aug. 28 primary.

Rep Bill McCullom thought that he owned the Florida Governor's seat because the GOP Establishment told him so.

But McCullom failed to recognize the Florida voters had grown weary of 'Republican Politics As Usual' and nominated Rick Scott instead.

Adam Putnam, the professional GOP politician since he graduated from college at age 22 has the same GOP Establishment baggage.

Unlike Ron DeSantis who had a distinguished 20 year military career before entering politics.

As a member of the Freedom Caucus Ron DeSantis has my vote. I just ordered my primary ballot and one for my husband who will also be voting for DeSantis.

Putnam is a phony.

Adam Putnam’s life is eerily similar to that of Debbie Wasserman Schultz. The only thing these people have done in their lives is to be a politician. Neither one has any real work experience.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz
Born-—September 27, 1966
In 1988, Wasserman Schultz became an aide to Florida House Rep. Peter Deutsch (D)
Florida State House of Representatives 1992 to 2000
Florida State Senate November 7, 2000 – November 2, 2004
U.S. House of Representatives from Florida’s 23rd district 2005 to present

Adam Putnam
Born: Jul 31, 1974
Florida House November 5, 1996 – November 7, 2000
US House January 3, 2001 – January 3, 2011
Florida’s Commissioner of Agriculture, elected in 2010

Wouldn’t it be just delightful, if the GOP runs the table this Fall? I think the reason the party in office loses in the midterm, is because they’re lazy. I don’t recall Bush campaigning much.

None of these people, in my life time, stack up to the energy of Trump.

He fires us up.

I seem to recall that he was a very vocal never-Trump during the last election. He is also soft on amnesty or at least was.

Time to retire, Adam.

He votes like Debbie on occasion too, LOL.

He is squishy and the last thing we need is squish.

His early attacks on DeSantis were over-the-top and offensive, at least to me. I decided I wouldn’t vote for him even if he won the primary.

DeSantis has my vote. Putnam is a phony and it was under his watch that background checks weren’t done on CC applicants. The employee said the program stopped working so he/she stopped using it. Couple that with Grady Judd’s commercials saying Putnam supports deporting illegals IF they have committed a crime - I’m out.

DeSantis will beat Putnam and crush the Democrat in the general. They donkeys three leading candidates are two South Florida White Jewish males who could not get themselves arrested above Palm Beach County and a 38 year old Black man financed by Soros. Pick your poison evil donkey. Any of these guys will drag down enthusiasm for Democrats and insure the the well liked and well funded Rick Scott will crush Nelson as well.

I will be voting for DeSantis. His debate with Putnam recently helped a lot. Trumps endorsement helps a lot too. The Putnam ads have been running here for several months bashing DeSantis.

Like a professional politician Adam Putman immediately changed from being a NeverTrumper to a ProTrumper once Trump was elected.

As far as immigration is concerned Adam Putnam used his influence to stop E-Verify from becoming law in Florida.

I notice in Putnam’s ads (which by the way we are be bombarded with in Florida) that he limits his concern about ‘foreign illegals’ to those who have committed a crime. I guess Putnam means all the other ‘foreign illegals’ who get welfare and free education for their kids is something the Florida Taxpayers need to simply ‘buck up’ and pay the bill.

Hannity was in Florida also campaigning with DeSantis and Matt Gaetz, so between Hannity and the President endorsing him, I feel comfortable with my choice.

Thanks for the information, he does seem to have a soft spot for illegal immigration. Could it be the Big Sugar Industry that makes him so liberal on this issue? I think, I think it is. :-)

“Big Sugar” is a mess in Florida, as well as, in other states. I think it is past time to revisit the sugar quotas and subsidies that have created a two tier pricing system for sugar in the USA.

Sugar produced in foreign countries and sold in the USA gets $.12 per pound. https://www.barchart.com/futures/quotes/SBV18/all-futures

Whereas, USA produced sugar gets $.26 per pound. https://www.barchart.com/futures/quotes/SDU18

I am not sure if Big Sugar cares about the immigration issue. I would think much of the sugar production process is mechanized and does not rely on immigrant labor.

Big Sugar is most concerned about keeping the sugar quotas and subsidies. Big Sugar is a big contributor to candidates in both the Republican and Democrat parties.

I have no feelings for adam either way. That being said we are voting for Desantis. What sealed it is his support for President Trump
