(Florida) ‘Stand your ground’ law protects shooter in deadly fight over parking space: sheriff

An argument over a handicapped parking spot at a convenience store in Florida led to a fatal shooting and the man who pulled the trigger won’t be arrested under the state’s “stand your ground” self-defense law, authorities said.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri told reporters during a Friday press conference that Thursday’s shooting death of Markeis McGlockton, a 28-year-old father of three, is “within the bookends of stand your ground and within the bookends of force being justified,” the Tampa Bay Times reports.

“I’m not saying I agree with it, but I don’t make that call,” Gualtieri told reporters, adding that his agency will now forward the case to the State Attorney’s Office for a final decision.

Remember, all the Prog media sources said that if Concealed Carry permits were issued, there would be gunfights every single day over parking places. Look how long they had to wait before they finally got one! I suspect there is more to the story here. Dindu Nuffin probably pulled his first.

The perhaps-intended consequence of the last few years of race-baiting. This is how the CW starts...one little thing at a time.

Is this another misuse of the term “stand your ground”? AKA among the anti gun crowd as shoot who you want in FL.

‘Stand your ground’ law protects shooter in deadly fight over parking space

Somehow this just doesn't sound right to me.

I believe in stand your ground, but the video looks a lot more like murder or at best manslaughter.

The guy is assaulted and pushed to the ground. The assailant backs away. At that point in time the victim pulls his weapon and fires. All he needed to do at that point was wait for the cops. I saw no reason to fire. The video looks more like vengeance.

I cannot know the whole story, but this does not look justified.

You are going to get flamed for your post. But not by me. You make several excellent points.

Dindu Nuffin's girlfriend parked in a handicapped space without having a handicapped permit when there were several open non handicapped nearby.

White guy peacefully objected to Nuffin's girlfriend without threatening.

In response, Dindu Nuffin approached white guy and violently knocked him to the ground using both hands, and continued to approach.

White guy fired one shot from disadvantaged position on the ground.

So the guy provoked the whole incident by parking in a handicapped parking space with out a permit. When he gets into an argument with someone about parking in a handicapped space, the person complaining about the illegally parked vehicle knocks down the man who parked the car. That man then shoots the person who knocked him down. Wow, that sure is low standards for self defense. The guy who hit him was retreating.

SYG is the right call. I’m grateful for this law in FLA. That jerk could have killed that man pushing him so hard like that.

maybe these thugs will think twice about attacking people in the future, for fear they will lose their lives.

Just that push to the ground could have killed him.

If you want to stay alive, it wise not to assault people.

Why should anyone have to “wait for the cops”?

What if they don’t come before you die?

It is... yes the guy was shoved, but the man who shoved him clearly was no longer attacking or engaging him in an intimidating manner once he was on the ground.

But don’t waste your breath on the argument here, too many will defend any gun use no matter how outrageous.

I am fully for self defense, but if this guy feels in fear for his life from a man who was backing away from him even before he was off the ground.. he’s a coward not a cause.

I can see your point. At least by current namby-pamby laws.

In the old more sane days, this would still be acceptable, though.

Vengeance is a little strong. Anger, sure, after all he was just pushed down onto pavement. And he waited there. Did not just run to hide.

But I have to ask everyone: WHAT HANDICAPS DID ANY OF THESE PEOPLE HAVE?

Why exactly were they fighting? Was white guy simply do-gooder incensed that black girl took a space wrongly? Or was he handicapped and privileged for that space? Absolutely no word on this.

White guy was within his rights to argue with the lazy, arrogant skank who parked in the handicapped spot.

Black guy was within his rights to tell the white guy to lay off his girlfriend/ho/baby mama.

Black guy was NOT within his rights to shove the white guy. That's assault and battery.

White guy's draw-and-fire response was extreme, but justifiable.

Now baby mama and her three welfare spawn have a disposal problem.

You seem to have your story bass-ackwards.

Black girl parks illegally. Black guy gets out to store.

White guy argues with black girl.

Black guy hears about argument and comes out.

Black guy pushes white guy onto pavement.

THEN white guy shoots while on ground. (Yes, WG may have not had to if BG was “retreating”, which he seemed to have finished his point with the pavement.)
