Calexit and the American Civil War

The American Civil War was a tumultuous time. A number of states were very unhappy with the federal government and wanted to leave the union. The federal government would have none of that. Instead, they wanted the states to obey the dictates from Washington. Is that any different from today?

Let’s look at Calexit from a historical perspective.

When I was in school I was quite the history buff. Indeed, one of my most favorite classes was history. I would read my textbooks for fun, and I completely absorbed the information there like a sponge. It didn’t matter what I was reading. I loved it all… As a Boy Growing Up

Like all boys my age, I was interested in everything. My historical interests varied considerably. It was everywhere from giant man-eating dinosaurs to buried temples of gold. It ran the gambit from the German experience on the Eastern battlefront against the Russians, to the

No, except we have at least a temporary reprieve with the election of DJT.

With this “Calexit” business, some in California feel that the country isn’t liberal enough, that California should secede from the union, so California can become liberal on global warming, eliminate the border with Mexico, implement socialism, etc.

I can’t believe national Democrats would let California go quietly. If you back out the election results from California in 2016, then Trump would have won the popular vote and electoral vote comfortably in that election. National Democrats need to be able to pencil in California’s 55 electoral votes right off the bat, for whoever their presidential nominee is each time.

I believe Salmon P Chase found a way to put the last nail in the coffin of secessionism.

Before 1869, secession of a state was considered a state right, After the Civil War, Chase refused to give Jeff Davis a “Treason” trial in fear he might prove secession constitutional.

So in 1869, Chase used the Texas v. White, 74 U.S. (7 Wall.) 700 (1869) as an excuse to deny states the right to leave the Union.

The Dems think it’s all theatre. So they are pretending to push it in the hope of getting our attention. But these things have a way of getting out of control. And they may be surprised that there are a lot of real Americans (as opposed to Mexifornians) who would like to help them leave.

The California Independence from the United States Initiative (#16-0011A1), also known as the Calexit Initiative, will not be on the ballot in California as a combined initiated constitutional amendment and state statute on November 6, 2018. The initiative was informally referred to as Calexit in reference to Great Britain’s 2016 Brexit vote.[1][2]

On April 17, 2017, Louis Marinelli, the president of the supporting Yes California group, announced the campaign was ending. Campaign officials stated that Marinelli’s connection to Russia was hurting their fundraising. Marcus Ruiz Evans, former vice president of Yes California, joined the California Freedom Caucus (CFC). Ruiz Evans said the CFC hoped to have its own independence initiative proposed by May 1, 2017.[3]

The measure would have called on the state to hold a referendum on March 13, 2019, on whether California should declare independence from the United States. The question asked would have been: “Should California become a free, sovereign, and independent country?” A declaration of independence would have been issued if at least 50 percent of registered voters participated and 55 percent or more voted yes on the question. If the 2019 referendum were to be approved, the California governor would have been required to request California’s admittance into the United Nations as the Republic of California.[4]

The measure would have repealed language in the California Constitution that states “... California is an inseparable part of the United States of America, and the United States Constitution is the supreme law of the land.”[4]

It’s unclear what impact this initiative would have had on the status of California as a state in the United States because no mechanism to secede exists in the United States Constitution.[5]

Sorry, no such thing as “giant man-eating dinosaurs”.
Dino’s and humans missed each other by 65 million years.
Guess he must have missed that chapter is his funtime reading of history.

Whenthey force their libtard socialist dictates on the states they sing a totalitarian tune.

Abortion.

Gay “marriage”.

Demanding states not defend their borders or erect walls from illegals as its not their purview.

They unconstitutionally support lower courts blocking laws that afect states outside of their jurisdiction.

They are all fine with fedgov dictating and acting like a socialist goon big brother when theyve got one of their comrades running things into the ground.

California doesn’t have to secede from the Union to create a Socialist paradise.

Californians are free to vote for a Socialist governor and legislature that would provide free college tuition to all citizens, a single-payer Socialist healthcare system, guaranteed incomes for all citizens of any amount, and it could raise its minimum wage from $15 dollars an hour to $50 or $500 dollars an hour.

So why don’t the citizens of California create such a government?

Why haven’t California’s most Left-wing citizens yet managed to get a referendum put on the ballot that would allow voters to decide if they wanted free college tuition? or Socialized medicine? or a $500 dollars an-hour minimum wage?

Probably because Californians have enough sense not to want to turn their state into another Venezuela.

The predicted ascension of Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez into any kind of meaningful political power is the midsummer night’s dream of the liberal media driven to madness by two years of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Ding. And Chief Justice Salmon P Chase also found the actions of the Treasury Secretary to be completely in the right and constitutionally sound....one Salmon P Chase to be exact.

LOL! Yes the court’s “ruling” in Texas V White is just that laughable.

Calexit is useless speculation like fantasizing about making love to your favorite movie star. There is no grass roots effort to secede from the USA. I live in California, I work with liberals, and nobody talks about California leaving the union. There is more effort to create the State of Jefferson than for California to leave the Union. The signs by the side of the road all say Jefferson.

Now, people are up in arms about President Trump and all that, so they never call him President. But they are far more concerned with Supreme Court Justices than they are with becoming a country of their own.

The only reason I can think of to oppose Calexit is the long long border between Mexifornia and the USA. All those illegals sucked out of Mexico will be piling into the USA once Cali’s economic collapse becomes apparent to the non Silicon Valleyites.
