President Trump is looking into revoking the security clearances of several top Obama-era intelligence and law enforcement officials, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said Monday.

During the daily press briefing, Sanders told reporters that the president was considering taking away clearances for former FBI Director James Comey, former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, former CIA Director John Brennan, former National Security Adviser Susan Rice and former Director of National Security Michael Hayden (who worked under President George W. Bush).

If they have left the government, why would they retain security clearance? I don’t understand the process I guess. Happy to have an explanation.

Clearances are usually valid for five years, and they go with the individual.

Exactly. When you leave a job, you leave everything behind. Why would you expect to retain your security clearance?

I agree when the person leaves the position they should lose the clearance and access to any intel.

It terrifies me that a man so openly hostile to this nation as Brennan is still getting briefings !

Mr President, your wise and courageous leadership is hugely appreciated !

As long as they are on the job, in my opinion...Once they leave the position, the clearance should be cancelled...

I could see them retaining clearance for whatever length of time (for such as if they returned to government or worked for a contractor), but giving them access to anything is insane.

Sigh, take your time, no rush.

Even Sessions would laugh at how slowly this is going.

“Clearances are usually valid for five years, and they go with the individual.”

That policy is insane. If that’s so, why 5 years? Why not 10 or for life?

I wonder if he can do it retroactively, going back to even before Obama became president, and then declaring that Obama’s presidency was illegal, and his entire cabinet.
