Sanders: Trump considering removing security clearances for Obama-era officials
The Hill ^ | 07/23/18 | Morgan Chalfant

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders on Monday said that President Trump is exploring whether to remove the security clearance of former CIA Director John Brennan and other top Obama-era intelligence officials.

Sanders accused Brennan, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former FBI Director James Comey and others of “politicizing” and “monetizing” their public service.

“They’ve politicized and in some cases monetized their public service and security clearances,” Sanders said during the daily briefing. “Making baseless accusations of improper contact with Russia, or begin influenced by Russia against the president is extremely inappropriate and the fact that people with security clearances are making these baseless charges provides inappropriate legitimacy to accusations with zero evidence.”

Sanders’ comments came after Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) suggested on Twitter that Brennan should have his security clearance revoked.

“Is John Brennan monetizing his security clearance? Is John Brennan making millions of dollars divulging secrets to the mainstream media with his attacks on @realDonaldTrump?” Paul wrote. He said he was meeting Monday to ask Trump to remove Brennan’s security clearance.

Brennan and other former officials have been publicly critical of the president’s comments about Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Trump sparked bipartisan criticism last week when he cast doubt on the intelligence community’s assessment of Russian election interference — a remark he later walked back.

Sanders also said Monday that Trump is “looking to take away” security clearances belonging to former Obama national security adviser Susan Rice and former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe — the FBI official who was fired by Attorney General Jeff Sessions in March before the publication of an inspector general report that criticized his conduct.

He needs to think about this? This should have been done last year.

My security clearance ended when I retired honorably. Why should these anti-American criminals be allowed to keep theirs?

ALL Obama officials should have their clearance revoked, including Obozzo himself !

These criminals are actively working against the interests of the Republic with the knowledge they gain in briefings !

Consider? With all due respect, President Trump, THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE ON DAY ONE OF YOUR ADMINISTRATION. There is no reason why former cabinet officials need to have continuing access to classified information once the leave Government service.

I sure as hell can’t just waltz back onto an Air Force base and start reading classified T.O.s just because I once had clearance to do so when I was on active duty.

These Obama rejects, including Hellary, have no reason to have any security clearance. All should end for everyone as soon as they end government employment.
Brennan has one and he works for CNN now. That clearance is an abuse.
Should someone who had one need one again for a job that actually is directly related to national security, then they can reapply. And of course, yank Obama’svif he still has one.

Actually your clearance probably didn't end, unless it also expired at the same time as your retirement.

What you lost at your ending debrief was your accesses.

Most likely you got to sign non-disclosure documents listing the severe penalties for violations. Depending on your accesses you might also have had to sign publishing restrictions and/or travel restrictions.
