WASHINGTON - (FOX 5/FOX NEWS) – Z-Burger has apologized after its social media account used a meme of slain journalist James Foley to bash its competitors.

The District-based chain reportedly tweeted the image of James Foley, an American journalist who was kidnapped and executed by ISIS in 2014, over the weekend.

“When you say you want a burger and someone says okay let’s hit McDonald's,” the since-deleted tweet said, with an image of Foley attached that said, “You disgrace me.”

I’ve noticed more and more violence in tv commercials. It’s supposed to be edgy and amusing but comes across as creepy and intimidating. Probably because they are employing 23 year old advertising “geniuses.”

That may be but that was a pretty good apology on his part.

Back in the old days, Schlitz beer had a highly successful ad campaign built around the catch phrase "Go for the gusto". At some point, their marketing people bought into a new campaign that was more like "Drink Schlitz or we'll kill you." They went from a competitor to Budweiser to the answer to a trivia question in a heartbeat. Stupid ad executives and peurile ad designers can kill a company real quick.
