Four days after seemingly defying the NFL and letting the world know about his team’s zero-tolerance policy regarding standing for the national anthem, Jones is now not talking about the issue because he has been told not to by the league.
Jones informed several local television stations who had booked him for interviews on their Sunday night show from training camp in Oxnard, Calif., that questions about the national anthem and his team’s policy were not permitted because the NFL had told him to stop

As a 40-year Cowboys fan, that broke my heart. I didn’t watch another live game all year, I did watch a couple of the Cowboys victories on tape; cancelled my DirectTV Sunday ticket.
Overall, my football viewership was down about 90% last year. This year it will down be near 100%.

He is part owner of the NFL and Goodell works for the owners, who own the league as a partnership.

Goodell is just the designated punching bag for the owners. That way, the owners don’t get hammered for being anti-American pieces of $hit.
I doubt Jones’ position is legal but it needs to be decided by a court order once and for all.
Roger Goodell and the NFL can kiss my ass and go to hell.

And yet, he could make this work for him. If he could convince the players that they should stand because they are America’s team, make it “Us against them” against the rest of the league, (while telling them he will trade anyone who doesn’t stand), then he could make the flag the symbol that is worth standing for. Of course, many of the other team’s players would hate their guts, but most of the country would support them. Otherwise, Jerry could make himself a pain in the ass to the rest of the owners and force them to buy him out for 10 Billion. It would be about 3 years for the League to tank after that, because most of us have had enough of this crap.
Same here - my sister-in-law's husband is a hopeless NFL addict. A few weeks ago, I had to stifle a comment while we were visiting there - he'd received an e-mail telling him that he'd finally made it to the top of the season tickets waiting list.
He was elated, but at the same time confused to see tickets available in *all* levels of the stadium. My wife gave shot me a meaningful look (which I interpreted as "Don't pee in the punchbowl...") and rolled her eyes at his cluelessness.
