Charles Koch: Trump Tariffs ‘Unfair’ to Foreigners

Billionaire plutocrat and GOP mega-donor Charles Koch says President Donald Trump’s tariffs on aluminum, steel, and thousands of Chinese-made imports are “ridiculous” and “unfair” to foreigners. Koch, who funds a network of organizations with his brother, David Koch, told the media during a conference with donors over the weekend that Trump’s ten percent tariff on imported aluminum and 25 percent tariff on imported steel was not fair to foreign countries and foreign workers.

The Trump administration has said the tariffs on imported goods are necessary to protect American jobs and industries from foreign competition where foreign-made products are sold much cheaper than U.S.-made products, driving U.S. companies out of business.

“This is ridiculous, we should just get rid of all barriers except on things that will hurt people,” Koch told the media, according to ABC News.

“Yeah, it’s unfair. It’s unfair to their people,” Koch claimed of the foreign countries and foreign workers who have been hit with Trump’s tariffs.

So Mr Koch- how much stuff do you manufacture or make and how much of it do the Chinese buy?

Wait... what? We buy half a trillion more stuff from China than they buy from us? They make steel cheap and just dump it here and send us the bill?
Gee how do we pay for that?
Wait... what? We borrow money from them to pay for it?
So by that debt they “ own” us more and more?

Gee how long can we keep doing that?

Probably the case, but he would be more honest if he just said that, instead of wrapping it around concerns about foreign workers. He doesn’t give a sh** about what the trade policies he favors does to American workers, so his voiced concern is clearly bullbiscuits.

You can accuse libertarians of patriotism, but they will rarely be convicted.

Well that's EXACTLY what President Trump is trying to do, Chuck.

And part of that is the existing arrangements HURT the AMERICAN people.

I don't know why you're opposed to this when P Trump is doing what you called for.

"I think the Koch’s are democrats..."

No, they are the elite globalists, the inner circle of the Deep State...i.e. the swamp. And they can't control President Trump...so they are willing to throw this American President under the bus to gain the control they have enjoyed of other elected.

That is probably true.

I remember the early 80’s and Newt’s push for the free trade agreements.

I also remember Congressman Henry Hyde warning us about history and free trade devastating England’s industries.

Trump knows what a mistake free trade was. He’s pushing for reciprocal trade which is probably the best he can get right now. I think if he just put import tariffs in across the board, he would face a rebellion by both parties.

Still, anyone with half a brain should be able to see what has happened.

The Koch’s represent the worst of America. Worse than the commies. Worse than BLM. At least you know where they stand.

[Danny the Republicans started this free trade globalism insanity not the Democrats....]

It’s gone back and forth. Republican industrialists were protectionists when they needed a respite from European competition. Democratic farmers in the South wanted markets in Europe and cheap imported products and equipment for their farms so they were free traders.

I bet Charles Koch owns more foreign companies than American.

The Krotch brothers represent foreign interests over Americans. Screw them!
