The tax and bank fraud trial in a Virginia federal court represents the first test of Mueller's ability to win a conviction of a former Trump aide. Three other aides, including Manafort's longtime business partner Rick Gates, have already pleaded guilty and are cooperating with Mueller's probe.
Trump has vacillated between showing sympathy for Manafort and trying to distance himself. Manafort worked on Trump's presidential campaign for five months and attended a June 2016 Trump Tower meeting with Russians that is a focal point of Mueller's probe into possible collusion between the campaign and the Kremlin.
A Manafort conviction would give momentum to Mueller, who has indicted or secured guilty pleas from 32 people and three companies since the probe started 14 months ago. An acquittal would support efforts by Trump and his allies to portray the probe as a "witch hunt." Trump denies any collusion with Russia, and on Tuesday tried to make the case publicly that collusion would not be a crime anyway.

USSR / Stalin / Cambodia / Pol Pot / Red China / Mao / North Korea / Iran
This information must get “out there”.
1. Manafort did consulting work in the Ukraine, not Russia
2. This work took place in 2004 and 2014
3. This has nothing whatsoever to do with Russia
4. This addresses actions that took place two to twelve years before Manafort worked for Trump.
5. Due to these facts, this trial cannot be the first trial that addresses the Russian probe
6. Manafort never worked as a Trump aide, a title to make it look like he was advising or helping Trump to implement policy. He was a campaign manager.
Other than that, this headline is spot on...
Did the Russians make him commit tax fraud, or did the Russians make him commit bank fraud?

They always include his brief stint with the Trump Campaign and Russia, but fail to report when this supposedly happened.
