South African ruling African National Congress will push ahead with plans to amend the constitution to allow for the expropriation of land without compensation, President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Tuesday, a move likely to unnerve investors.
The ANC had said in May it would “test the argument” that land redistribution without compensation is permitted under current laws, a plan that would have avoided the risky strategy of trying to change the constitution.
The proposal was first adopted in December by the party.
“It has become pertinently clear that our people want the constitution to be more explicit about expropriation of land without compensation as demonstrated in the public hearings,” Ramaphosa said in a recorded address to the nation.
“The ANC will through the parliamentary process finalize the proposed amendment to the constitution that outlines more clearly the conditions under which expropriation of land without compensation can be effected.”

Expropriation without compensation is stealing.
Any company that starts to show a profit will be immediately expropriated for “the good of the people.” No company will even think about investing even a broken pencil in that country.

Any investor will be looking for something other than monetary gains. Of what strategic importance is South Africa to any other nation? There will have to be some payback to get involved in the chaos that is coming.
I’m sure the demoncrats are following this closely. For that matter they may be helping write the legislation with an eye toward the future. Also recall more than one demoncrat has said we need to look beyond the Constitution to the laws of other lands to decide problems here in the USA.
I noticed last month that a group of SA farmers had gone off to Russia to look at the ‘crazy’ idea of setting up farms there.
Russia still has a vast amount of land with no farm production going on. I think the Russian idea was to go and interest these guys....offering up a low lease deal on farm production land, and get them started. It wouldn’t surprise me if you had 40,000 South African farmers relocate over the next ten years.
