Gun rights activists post plans for 3D firearms after judge's order blocking them

Code Is Free Speech, a coalition of five U.S. groups, said the ban on publishing blueprints for 3D guns violates the First Amendment.

A coalition of gun rights advocates challenged a federal judge's order temporarily barring a Texas company from publishing blueprints on the web to make untraceable 3D-printed guns by publishing similar blueprints itself on Tuesday, saying such publications were protected by the First Amendment.

After years of litigation, U.S. District Judge Robert Lasnik issued a temporary restraining order earlier in the day blocking Defense Distributed of Austin, Texas, from relaunching on Wednesday with blueprints for plastic firearms that can be "printed" by machines using computer-assisted design, or CAD.

During the Obama administration, publication of plans for 3D guns was barred under an interpretation of federal export laws that ban the foreign distribution of firearms.

They absolutely are, but few are willing to try and find out.

Defense Distributed DEFCAD
This site, after legally committing its files to the public domain through a license from the U.S. Department of State, has been ordered shut down by a federal judge in the Western District of Washington.

Still down?

Some lefty on thehill.com was screeching I was violating a court order by posting links to the blueprints.

My response: "Ruling doesn't apply to me. I was never a party to the case and was never served with an order not to post them."

I think this is a case of technology lag. I don't know enough about 3D printing or 3D printed guns to make an informed opinion. I don't know who has 3D printers, where to get them, or any of that. But I would say that any laws or regulations have not caught up with that technology. I think a slight pause to study that is not unreasonable. I mean, do kids/felons have access to the printers/plans? Are the guns untraceable? How much of a problem are those? Should anything be done? Again, I don't know the answers and I doubt the judge does either. Just my opinion and FYI I am a 2nd Amendment supporter.

Manufacturing a firearm for personal use [pistol, rifle, shotgun] is not and has never been illegal under Federal law. Making a firearm with 3D printing technology is no different legally than making one with a lathe and milling machine!

Fake News and Fake legal rulings!

.
The constitution says “shall not be infringed.”

Prohibitions and regulations go way beyond mere infringement.

The authors of the amendment clearly intended that the people had sufficient access to sufficient armament to keep the government under their control.

This is EXACTLY what they were planning to do with The Pentagon Papers if they had lost at SCOTUS.

You can download blueprints for a NUCLEAR BOMB, for cripes sakes!

Just downloaded them all - not because I ever plan on using them (I have plenty of firearms and I don’t have a 3-D printer) but just to give their download counter more hits.

The media is creating a Streisand Effect here, no one would have cared about these blueprints without them and some activist judges making a big brouhaha over them.

RE:”Forbidden knowledge... You can’t know how to that!”

Exactly, the First Amendment was never to protect your right to read things that government doesnt want you to.

Just like getting dirt, possible crimes that Hillary committed from a Russian national is collusion.

Trump needed to report their offers to those FBI agents who took out the insurance policy against him (Trump) winning the election(I heard Chris Matthews say this many times.)

Didn't know that.

Bet doing that would attract a visit by the FBI.

Make a great surprise for 4th of July.

I have no 3D printer, and have zero intention of getting one within the next 10 years.

Still, I downloaded the plans, because EFF THEM.
