If you have any available, maybe cheaper to rub the sign down with poison ivy. They likely won’t make the connection but it will sure ruin their day. 100% natural.

This kind of stuff worked for me in 16. A thin coat around the edges. It ruins their car or bike, their clothes, their door knob, it even ruins their keyboard when they post what in the hell is this stuff to DU.
Some is colored, go for the clear stuff. Imagine them getting it in their hair. This stuff is insidious. It is a glorious punishment. Close your door... sticky hands. Drive your car, sticky hands. Regular detergent wont remove it from clothes. Sand it off of your hands and touch any of the above, sticky hands.
As Q says, these people are dumb.
When they started stealing my T&P signs I went all chemist on them. What if they steal your sign and cant remove it or it’s effects?

I considered your approach but found it too much. What if sign stealing moron goes into anaphalactic shock? I came up with a solution. Sticky fingers for the people with sticky fingers.

A good alternative is to put short drywall screws around the edge of the sign. The points of those screws are very sharp and they hold in the sign well.
They hurt when you grab them. A downside is you end up with blood on your signs.
...and when you take down the signs, you yourself have to be careful.
Most campaign signs are stolen at night, so smearing the back side of the sign with roofing tar works like a charm.
The first thing they will do is wipe it on their pants, and if they have to get into a car it will be all over that.
Best part it is that it wont hurt them in any way, so no lawsuits.

Hmmm. I like all of the ideas in the FR post and thread, with the electric hookup being a cheap, nonlethal livestock fence charger. Imagine doing all of the above.
