You’d be surprised. But I will tell you this, if you’re a senior who’s hidden his/her assets thinking that Medicaid/Medicare will take care of you in decent fashion, you’ll in for a very rude, possibly life-threatening, awakening.
My advice: Unless you’re willing to stake your life on your kids loving you, pay your way. You will get far better care.

Yes... I’d want something better than bargain basement if I could afford it.

They are dual eligibles because they can’t afford Medicare. So they get both.

You mean that if you give people food, a home, and medical care, they wont work too - at least not on the books? Im shocked Seriously? /s.. If you give a man a fish you will feed him for a day, and he'll sleep late the next morning , because he knows where to get free fish. Iow.. Have you every seen a section 8 house with a nice lawn? or even one that looks like they are cutting it regular? long term welfare for the able bodied is a road to hell. If you can screw and have kids you can get a job. and the baby daddy should have his nuts cut if he cant support his first child.

Someone who lives nearby and is on Medicaid hasn't worked in decades, but is well enough to run their lawnmower over ten acres in a day or two. Talking to Medicaid officials to keep up the Medicaid by phone just doesn't cut it.

Not a big demand for outhouses right now.

Why work when you can sit around on your fat, worthless a** all day watching tv, eating snacks, drinking cheap alcohol, toking and scratching your self? Work is for chumps. Get with the program ! !!

Though seniors hiding assets is still an issue, too. And one that WILL have to be addressed. In expanded Medicaid states, there is no longer an asset test to get medicaid. They still have to worry about estate recovery if they pass away with big medical bills after 55.

NYS has income and asset tests for Medicaid. I’ve never heard of the state attempting recovery from the estate of someone who went on after age 65. I’m not opposed to it, however.

They are suppose to recover certain costs like nursing-home care. I don’t think the clock stops ticking when you hit 65. States don’t have to recover all costs, but have the option to. Somebody living in a cash short state like Illinois better read the fine print..
