A new internal document obtained by CNN shows the Transportation Security Administration's proposal to eliminate screening at more than 150 small to medium sized airports is just one of several cost-saving measures the agency is discussing. The document, which an agency source says TSA Administrator David Pekoske was briefed on last month, shows how the TSA could save more than $300 million in 2020.

Read the entire print piece. Tell me what the total annual budget for TSA is, from this article. How in the world do you write such a piece and leave out the annual expenditure total for all of TSA? How is that possible? Between outright misleading stories and falsehoods and this generally incompetent level of writing - people are correctly very upset with the present state of media.

passengers with connecting flights would be screened at the larger airports, which have more sophisticated security measures, before boarding the next flight.

More missed connection flights because screening takes 45 minutes and you have 30 minutes to catch your connecting flight.

yes, isn’t this a policy that just doesn’t make sense, in this regard? What about connecting flight schedules???

And, if anyone is so inclined to hijack, won’t they now know to head for these small airports which won’t have security????

Their budget is about $7 billion annually. $300 million represents less that a 5% cut.

Hand the problem to 10 good engineers and they could automate the entire thing in a year for all USA airports.
Hand it over to the Gov and it will increase costs by 200M and you will have even more people standing around doing nothing.

At very small airports like Panama City, there are only 3-4 commercial flights a day. But there are hundreds like it.

Does anyone doubt that practically every federal budget could be slashed by 5% without limiting services--if appropriate audit measures were implemented?

Here’s the 2015 budget. Just gosh...

An Assessment of Planned 2015 Spending
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) provides security for the US transportation system with over 53,000 employees and a discretionary budget of over $7 billion. TSA applies screening technologies in conjunction with risk-based security principles to provide the most effective transportation security in the most efficient way. The enclosed research offers some details into the TSA 2015 budget request and where it plans to apply future spending.

Well, there is one small-medium size airport in Illinois that is guarding the airspace above America with zeal.

A tad overzealous group of TSA people working there.

Heck, a full 15% of the Medicare budget is defrauded or stolen. Nearly $100 billion a year.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) provides the (illusion of ) security for the US transportation system with over 53,000 employees and a discretionary budget of over $7 billion.

Tip of an ever increasing in size and cost iceberg of government.

Same with the Mesa regional airport. Heaven forbid you bring a bag of nuts or pretzels and “declare” it after they’re yelling at everyone in line to identify any food.
