New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo says hes discovered a way to kneecap the NRA by outlawing its gun-liability insurance program and is urging other states to follow his lead, saying they have a chance to exploit the gun-rights groups admitted dire financial situation.
Mr. Cuomo said the National Rifle Association let on in court papers last month how much it relies on the liability insurance program to bolster its bottom line, and could succumb to pressure.
I believe this insurance product is going to be illegal from a public policy point of view in most states, Mr. Cuomo said on MSNBC. Now that the NRA has said this is a major source of revenue, Im going to pursue it nationwide.
The liability insurance, Carry Guard, covers damages and court costs associated with defending against civil or criminal accusations of misuse of a firearm.
But under pressure from New York, which warned of reputational risks of doing business with the NRA, some insurers have backed away from underwriting the program.
In May, the state slapped $1 million-plus fines on insurance companies Lockton Cos. and Chubb Ltd., saying they violated state law by marketing and underwriting Carry Guard policies and that the policy improperly provided coverage for criminal proceedings arising from the use of a gun.
The NRA says Mr. Cuomo is engaged in a blacklisting campaign to smear the organization, and said its insurance is still available in the rest of the country.
But the gun-rights group also warned in court papers of a chilling effect, saying it has had serious difficulties obtaining new corporate insurance coverage and could have to close its affiliated television network if it cant find a replacement.

This is a particularly dastardly way of being underhanded, and I wonder if it’s even constitutional.
Is legal-defense insurance a constitutional thing to ban?
Leftists lay awake in bed all night thinking up this stuff.
What appalls me is the blatant, unapologetic attempt by a state government to shut down an organization which has every right to exist, for purely political reasons. That’s Venezuela, not the US.
Hey, moderates, independents, non voters . . . this is how they want to DENY YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS
You better wake up and vote accordingly
I personally don’t see how it ‘s constitutional for a state to to deny a right that’s legal but I’m no lawyer.
Instead of a cigarette after analingus
Amen to that.
It sounds like dirty pool and ought to be worth a scan of the constitution.
Friggin’ Nazi b*tches.
The devil stays awake 24/7 inspiring our modern, illiberal left with it.
This is why this country was founded on the principle of limited government. Unfortunately, this is a states right issue.
Or states’ wrong? It’s not as though a state had never gotten slapped down before for impinging on a federally guaranteed right.

Maybe we can thank the Gaystapo for that gay marriage, because that is now the syrup of ipecac that is going to get the system to vomit up not just that, but the rest of the poison.
Time to sue Andy both as Guv and as a private citizen.
Its war. They want to take guns from non-violent people and let violent criminals keep them.
