Jeff Sessions: The DOJ 'Will Not Partner With Groups That Unfairly Defame Americans' Like the SPLC

On Wednesday, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions denounced the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) for weaponizing its "hate group" designations against conservative organizations, and pledged that the Department of Justice (DOJ) will not partner with hate groups or groups that defame Americans. He spoke in front of the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a Christian legal organization that has won 9 Supreme Court cases in the last seven years and that has been unfairly defamed as a "hate group" by the SPLC.

"I have ordered a review at the Department of Justice to make sure that we do not partner with any groups that discriminate," the attorney general declared. "We will not partner with groups that unfairly defame Americans for standing up for the Constitution or their faith."

He made this promise shortly after explaining the history of the Southern Poverty Law Center. "People of faith are facing a new hostility. Really, a bigoted ideology which is founded on animus towards people of faith," Sessions declared. "You'll notice that they don't rely on the facts. They don't make better arguments. They don't propose higher ideals. No, they just call people names—like 'hate group.'"

"Does that sound familiar?" Sessions quipped.

"You know I’m from Alabama—the home of the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization that did important work in the South, vital work at a pivotal time," the attorney general explained.

He admitted that "there were hate groups in the South I grew up in. They attacked the life, liberty, and the very worth of minority citizens."

Sessions recalled working with the SPLC to secure the death penalty for a member of the Ku Klux Klan.

Sessions says the DOJ will not partner with the Southern Poverty Law Center.

He did not mention that the DOJ routinely relied on the SPLC during the Obama administration.

Please go do something useful, Jeff. I feel like we have elected a DMV clerk to the position of Attorney General.

Say what you will about Holder, but unlike Sessions, he was a wartime AG.

Perhaps it wasn't always but today the SPLC is a hate group.

I despised Holder, but at least he did know how to fight. Sessions? Not so much. IOW I agree with your comment.

Exactly.

The SPLC is a hate group.

AG Sessions may not be doing all we want, but he should get credit for when he does something positive.

This is consequential because the Gestapo leadership at the FBI rely on the communist Southern Poverty Law Center to attack gun owners.

It’s way past time to stomp the FBI’s nuts into the concrete. Go, Jeff...

I’ll give him credit for being right about it but it is a bit of a Captain Obvious statement. It’s also to his credit that no other Republican has ever had the guts to say so.

What a crap title. When I first read it, I thought that it was claiming that the SPLC was being unfairly defamed. And I was thinking - 'how can anyone possibly unfairly defame the SPLC'. They are an American hating, Christian hating, outfit - run by some pervert - that deserves scorn.
The title made it sound like the SPLC were Americans being unjustly defamed - not that they were the defamers (which they are).

Exactly. The SPLC has been a hate group against constitutionalists and Second Amendment supporters for decades.

No one in government has had the guts to call them on it.

Sessions has.

It is a part of the Trump revolution, of course.

There is enough non-Progressive media now that people understand they have a good chance of not being destroyed if they fight back against the leftist agenda.

Fun fact: Jeff Sessions voted to confirm Eric Holder in 2009. From the NY Slimes:

But other Republicans said they would vote for Mr. Holder despite his acknowledged mistakes. Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama, for example, said he was sure that Mr. Holder would be “a responsible legal officer and not a politician.”
