On August 8, 1974, then-President Richard Nixon announced in a televised address that he was resigning as president of the United States and would be replaced by then-Vice President Gerald Ford.
Nixon’s resignation came in the face of almost certain impeachment over the Watergate scandal, making him the first president in history to step down before his term was over. During his televised speech, he said that he always “tried to do what was best for the nation,” but decided to resign after determining that his political base wasn’t strong enough to continue with the constitutional process.
“I have never been a quitter," he told the public. "To leave office before my term is completed is abhorrent to every instinct in my body. But as president, I must put the interest of America first. America needs a full-time president and a full-time Congress, particularly at this time with problems we face at home and abroad."
He added that fighting for his “personal vindication” would “totally absorb” both his and Congress’ time, which needed to be spent solving problems plaguing America both at home and abroad.

And then the friendly neighbourhood media began treating us to footage of Jerry Ford tripping up and falling down all over the place.
Watergate was a big nothing.
I remember that date. I was at the Farmer’s Market in Bloomfield NM when the announcement came over the radio. I looked down and there on the front page of the STAR tabloid were the headlines in super big letters....
“JEAN DIXON SAYS NIXON WILL NOT RESIGN!”
Those who remember Jean Dixon, she was supposed to be able to foresee the future.
Ten years later her publicity agent released a statement that she HAD predicted the resignation, but I also remember earlier prophecies in other tabloids which she said Nixon would not resign.
This was the press-GROPELITES victory they’d been fighting to destroy Nixon since the 1950’s.
And the national socialist party press corpse wants to do it again. Desperately .
If Nixon had been a Democrat of today, he’d have simply stuck it out and completed his second term. What was striking then and is striking now was the willingness of members of the GOP to go after Nixon - you’ll never see that kind of behavior among Democrats.
How queer, I didn’t see Newsweak or the MSM cover the 40th anniversary of Bill Ayers bombing the pentagon (2012 was obambi’s re-election campaign year).
But the 44th anniversary of impeachment? Ho-kaaaay.
Watergate was where the Progressive media proved they controlled the nation’s politicians.
It was a media coup.

Notice that Obama did far worse, and the Media simply covered for him. Consider the IRS scandal, or Fast and Furious. Both much worse than Watergate.
Same playbook. Different actors. Payback for highlighting commies in press and government. Trump chasing out the crap and overhead. They want him out.
The media runs this every election cycle like clockwork. We should be running George Wallace footage in ads.
My mother who was born and bred in Italy cried the day Nixon resigned. Nixon resigned rather than getting impeached. Clinton on the other hand got impeached and stayed in office. Nixon really loved America. Clinton did not.
The real irony is that, compared to what came afterward, Richard Nixon was an altar boy/eagle scout.
Well, not today, certainly. Can’t say we never saw that kind of behavior among Democrats before then, however, especially considering that Walter Cronkite’s infamous reporting on the Tet Offensive where he lied about the outcome in order to force a retreat among America is apparently what got LBJ to renounce running for a second term.
