MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia condemned a new round of U.S. sanctions as illegal on Thursday after news of the measures sent the rouble tumbling to two-year lows and sparked a wider asset sell-off over fears that Moscow was locked in a spiral of never-ending curbs by the West.
Moscow has been trying with mixed success to improve battered U.S.-Russia ties since Donald Trump won the White House in 2016, and Russia’s political elite was quick to chalk up a summit last month between Trump and Vladimir Putin as a victory.
But initial triumphalism swiftly turned sour as anger over what some U.S. lawmakers saw as an over deferential performance by Trump and his failure to confront Putin over Moscow’s alleged meddling in U.S. politics galvanized a new sanctions push.
Having bet heavily on improving ties with Washington via Trump, Moscow now finds that Trump is under mounting pressure from U.S. lawmakers to show he is tough on Russia ahead of mid-term elections.
In the latest broadside, the U.S. State Department said on Wednesday it would impose fresh sanctions by the month’s end after determining that Moscow had used a nerve agent against a former Russian double agent, Sergei Skripal, and his daughter, Yulia, in Britain, something Moscow denies.

Yeah. It's like the obvious, sloppy chemical attacks in Syria being Assad's work. A rule of problem solving is if something doesn't make sense, it's probably not true.
Unfortunately, President Trump maybe isn't looking into historical perspective and questioning what those Deep State manipulators, who are in his administration and whom he believes, are feeding him.
At what point are sanctions Acts of War?

I don’t know if Bill Clinton’s assassins were KGB trained, but Russel Welch was attacked with military grade anthrax and survived. Not even Slick Willey’s highly skilled assassins were perfect — in my opinion there were so many strange deaths swirling around the Clintons that not all of them were coincidental. And the CIA’s assassination attempts of Castro were a string of countless failures. Embarassing, really.

Many British people are our closest allies, but they have their own swamp. Truth behind the tacit reasoning is that Putin had been trying to take over Europe. Now Trump is trying to undermine Putin’s power.
Problem with the Brits is they still think they are superior to their “cousins.” Even throughout the 2nd WW they mocked our troops as being “inferior.” Today they are constantly trying to shove their socialism down our throats and I’ve had enough of their preaching to us and trying to embarrass our country and our president. Yes, there are some good faithful Brits, but you’ll find far more thankfulness for our help among the French people. History shows the French have always been our closest allies.
There is a revolution in England. It’s a ticking clock against the status quo. They even built a border wall along their coast. The more Islamics attack, the more England will understand and see that Trump is on the right side. Only question — will the Islamics overwhelm them before the revolution is complete?
But even natural born England is a little bitter about us. We were able to avoid the early onslaught of both world wars, esp. WWII. And thus we ended up on top because they took a huge percentage of the flak.
To top it off, FDR issued our young men chocolate and female nylons to barter with. They did a LOT of bartering in war-rationed England.
Lastly, we seem weak to them. I suspect we are more family-focused. Are boarding schools a big thing in England?
You know, while I believe that England’s role in WWI was necessary to save the Free World, I don’t think the overwhelming majority of their officers studied tactics nearly enough.

The basic problem with the English is the outgrowth of two things.
They are immensely JEALOUS of the U.S. Recently I was discussing WWII with a Brit. He repeated the bit about our soldiers being”over paid, over sexed, and over here.” When I expressed my opinion that”over here” should relate to the song “Over There” from WWI and the fact that Europe’s problems with Germany were their problems and should have been resolved after WWI. His attitude was much the same as the British and even the French generals that American soldiers should have been used to “strengthen” the Allied lines. IOW, he was still harboring the idea that General Black Jack Pershing should have put American soldiers under the command of the Brits and French to plug the holes where needed. Pershing insisted on American soldiers fighting under the American flag as American units. Pershing would not put raw soldiers into battle who had not received proper training. This also rubbed the Brits the wrong way. Our soldiers should have been cannon fodder just like their own soldiers were (under the outdated thinking of the Brit Field Marshal Haig.)
The immense help we gave England in WWII before we were in the fight is completely forgotten.
After WWII the Brits continued to suffer shortages in everything and the American soldiers went home to the land of “plenty.” They think we are spoiled and wasteful.
They think Socialism is a good thing and can’t understand why so many Americans resist it. At the same time they scream and yell about high taxes. Margaret Thatcher is hated by many Brits, just as Trump is vilified by many Americans.
We Americans must never forget that we are unique in the world as a people founded on the principle that the PEOPLE CHOOSE their government and that government rules WiTH THE CONSENT of the PEOPLE. Unlike the European in general, we threw off the yokes of Royalty. We Americans ARE different. We still have freedoms we should learn to protect against those who think they should be able to think for us. Our youth as a nation is a sticking point with the Brits in particular. France followed our lead and revolted against their monarchy. The French, believe it or not, published the first Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizens. The idea was that of The Marquis de Lafayette with the assistance of America’s Thomas Jefferson. The committee wrote the declaration and it was passed in October 1791, then signed by King Louis XVI. It became the cornerstone of the French Constitution.
You are correct in your belief that the Brit generals were still fighting with outdated tactics. Their “Over the Top” orders in the face of the new German Machine Guns was abject stupidity and the foundation of mass horror.
I’ve visited most of the battlefields of WWI and WWII in Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and France as well as most of the cemeteries, including the grave of my favorite American General George Patton.
