ICE nets 133 illegal immigrants in alleged worker exploitation scam
The Washington Times ^ | August 9, 2018 | Stephen Dinan

Federal authorities Thursday announced the arrest of 13 people they say were ringleaders in a massive scheme to exploit illegal immigrants as cheap labor on farms and Hispanic-oriented businesses in Minnesota and Nebraska.

They also carried out search warrants on 11 of the businesses Wednesday and nabbed 133 illegal immigrant workers they found at the time.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said they suspect some of the migrants were coerced into working in rough conditions, either by force or threats of being reported to authorities for deportation...

Narrative is already “How horrible!”

From locals I know in the area, it wasn’t the illegals that got them in trouble, it was the living conditions.

Next step will to get the local Catholic bishops blasting this raid from the pulpit. Pressure on the local LEO’s for not stopping the raid, and a lot of shuffling on the state level.

Yeah, I don’t doubt it.

The employers scamming these illegals and the government deserve a stay at the graybar hotel while the illegals are given a free bus trip back to their home country.

What an absolute joke. 133 illegal aliens. Heck, they could go to any Walmart and find that many without effort. They are all around us and yet ICE is spinning its wheels, spending likely millions of dollars for just a couple, then they go back to their offices. With between 30-60 million illegal aliens in the US, they need to do better than 133. Guess all for show. Pathetic.

a massive scheme to exploit illegal immigrants as cheap labor

Go to any construction site, or follow a landscaping truck - there are VERY FEW Americans to be found at these venues and a horde of hispanics with extremely questionable immigration status - because they are CHEAP.

Seldom mentioned is that the crimes that ensnared the employers is not paying the 940 withholding taxes.

The employers withheld social security and Mediscam but didn't forward them to the IRS.

Once the feds started looking it changed into an ICE raid.

Moral of the story - do NOT screw with the IRS or your local mafia.

“””” because they are CHEAP. “””

WRONG!! It’s because they WORK. I was an employer in the construction biz for 40 years. Finding people that actually want to work is near impossible anymore.

What a horribly misleading headline. The story is about the employers, not the workers. The arrest of 133 illegal workers is secondary to the big picture; that the employers were exploiting the workers.

When you factor in hospital visits, and accidents and crimes by illegals...not to mention various Welfare its a lot more than minimum wage.

Those Racist rich white people are paying the bulk of the difference via taxes..so it’s okay.

Well, “worker exploitation scam” is in the headline.

True, but why didn't they say that 13 employers were arrested. To me, that is the real story.

That is an issue, yes. But to be fair its only part of an issue. The other part is looking for people that will work for the price an employer wants to pay them. Perhaps it is true they have a hard time finding workers for the salary/hourly ranges of wages and benefits being offered, regardless if they are industry competitive.

ICE doesn’t seem to have the freedom to go compare ID s and employees. Our government is responsible for the fact that by the thousands legal applications are rejected while illegal workers send home pictures of their almost new truck.

Absolutely! And why don’t we see ICE officers frog marching the business owners out of their offices?
The whole justice system is operating to cover up the guilty.

It’s not just the employers. Come to my city and I will show you many examples of illegals being taken for a ride by legalized Hispanics who they think they can trust. They convert any extra room in their houses to rent out these spaces to the illegals for $500 and up. Prices that rival a full size apartment for a space just big enough for a twin bed.

The giveaway is how many satellite dishes they have on their roof lines.

And the ACLU is condemning the raids! Says they will disrupt the communities for years. What about the exploited workers! Aren’t they the ones the ACLU was founded to help? These hypocrites make me so mad. If they had any integrity at all they would applaud this criminal exploitation of people, Even if they are here illegally.

Put enough employers in jail and the illegal immigrant problem becomes much more manageable.

I won’t waste much time with this debate. People who don’t know anything about hiring workers think the Mexicans get hired because they will work for far below minimum wage. Wrong.

They get hired because they are the only ones willing to work hard. Plain and simple.

I never hired any because my wifes job is to investigate this sort of thing so it would be awkward if I got caught doing it.
