Nearly 33,000 juveniles arrested over about the last two decades have been labeled by Chicago police as gang members..
The records, released as a result of an open records fight by the Chicago Tribune, provide the first look at gang data kept by the Police Department for those 17 or younger, most of whom were African-Americans and Hispanics from historically violent neighborhoods such as Lawndale and Back of the Yards.
At the time of their arrest, 13 of the juveniles were just 10 years old. About 60 were 11. And more than 300 were 12.

for years, leaders and members of organizations such as the Vice Lords, Gangster Disciples or Latin Kings — Chicago’s so-called super gangs — have been convicted of running criminal enterprises funded by drug trafficking and protected by violence.
Today, the gangs are broken up into much smaller and less organized factions, police say, but the block-by-block feuding still drives much of the violence plaguing principally pockets on Chicago’s South and West sides. Police cite some current 148 “active gang conflict areas” that make up about one-fifth of the city’s 231 square miles for officers to track and plan deployments around.

nine out of every 10 adults and juveniles listed in its arrest data had “self-admitted” to being in a gang.
Several of the gang officers who spoke to the Tribune said many gang members are surprisingly open about their affiliation — or give away obvious clues by what they wear or who they hang with.

Organizations like street gangs and the Sicilian Mafia arise and thrive only when the society, through its government, fails in its fundamental obligation to the people to secure their safety and property rights. And it’s one hell of a mess when that happens. Maybe two hells of a mess. Or even two hells of a mess of catastrophes.

If they are so proud of being gang members,then they shouldn’t be worried about being shot down in a confrontation,whether with police involvement or a rival gang. At some point,the rate of attrition should be cutting their numbers down.
Thank the Democrats for destroying the Black American Family. These kids HAVE no intact families, so they go LOOKING for one - and find one in a gang.
Gee. If a dumb hick from the sticks like ME can figure that out, you’d THINK someone as smart as, say Mayor Rahm Emanuel, could figure it out!
