Airbnb warned participants heading to Washington, D.C., to participate in this weekend's white nationalist “Unite the Right” rally that the company may cancel their reservations and remove their accounts if they are caught violating Airbnb's policies.
The company said in a statement to ABC News that it will take “appropriate action” if it identifies users who are “pursuing behavior on the Airbnb platform that would be antithetical to the Airbnb Community Commitment.”
Airbnb says all of its users are required to agree to its Community Commitment, which includes treating "everyone in the Airbnb community — regardless of their race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or age — with respect, and without judgment or bias."
The upcoming rally, which will take place near the White House at Lafayette Square, is being organized by the people who planned last year's deadly "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Airbnb has canceled accounts and bookings before, doing so ahead of Charlottesville's rally last year. The company has not publicly said how many of those bookings and accounts were canceled.
"We acted in advance of last year's horrific event in Charlottesville and if we become aware of similar information we won’t hesitate to do so again," the company said in a statement to ABC.
This weekend’s rally in Washington will take place on the one-year anniversary of the Charlottesville rally. Far-right protesters and anti-racist counterprotesters are both expected to gather in D.C.
Last year’s rally became deadly when a "Unite the Right" protester drove his car into a group of counterprotesters, killing local resident Heather Heyer and injuring more than a dozen others.

Funny, I caught a Airbnb client in San Jose, CA using it as a money laundry for a non-profit from Chicago.
Airbnb didn’t seem to have a problem with that.
So now they can cancel your room reservation if you plan to show up in DC and demonstrate for ANYTHING that they don’t like.

I am not even a fan of Alex, but he has an opportunity to build his own stuff and destroy the left and their would be nothing they could do about it.
I’m worried about ISPs not allowing him to hang his shingle as well.
The only way Airbnb could determine the politics of it’s users would be to cyber stalk the names online to dig up the dirt needed to “justify” the bannings.
His own app would require his own phone. Itunes would cut his nuts off.
They should be sued by the participants, that was never in the contract that they would play politics.
Unfortunately for them, that is not legal in DC. One of the few places where political affiliation is a protected aspect.

Since renting to people is often covered by “public accommodation” laws, wouldn’t this position be tantamount to saying ahead of an event, that they will intentionally discriminate?
Seems like a set up for a lawsuit.
Even if this really is the case, it *should* be irrelevant.
If companies want to unperson people for their politics - even if the politics are contrived at the top or are those you find personally abhorrent - then the whole fabric of social unity that is left essentially goes out the window.
Frankly, there are more important things than “muh corpurashun getz to do whatevur it wantz sinz itz privut,” and this is one of them. The Left is in the process of essentially destroying civil society, and people are sitting around with their thumbs up their butts burbling on about whether a rally is fake and financed by George Soros or whatever.
Bigger picture, people, bigger picture.
White Nationalist is a term invented by the Left, people embracing it are morons.
Even Andrew Anglin and other Alt-Right types were begging people not to go.
