Dem lawmaker seeks to lower voting age to 16

Rep. Grace Meng is sponsoring a resolution that would extend the right to vote to U.S. citizens 16 years of age or older.

The New York Democrat’s resolution, introduced earlier this month, would repeal the 26th Amendment of the Constitution, which currently states the right to vote for citizens who are 18 years of age or older "shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State."

If the resolution is passed, the amendment would instead say the right to vote for citizens who are 16 years of age or older "shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State."

The resolution comes several months after a City Council member in Washington, D.C., Charles Allen (D), introduced legislation that would lower the age to vote in federal and local elections to 16.

At the time, Allen said he proposed the legislation after seeing high school students organize and participate in the March for Our Lives event in D.C. to protest gun violence and demand new gun laws.

The U.S. voting age was last changed in 1971 after a decades-long fight. Proponents of the 26th Amendment argued that any citizen who was old enough to be drafted into the military at age 18 should also be afforded the right to vote.

We should be raising the voting age not lowering it.

I suspect Democrats know they're hemorrhaging voters and they need to find new ignorant fodder.

Of course, clown. Anything to increase the number of ignorant voters who don’t know anything.

MINORS can’t vote, dummy.

We should raise the voting age to the same as that required to purchase a handgun.

Get them to vote before their brainwashing in the government-run schools begins to wear off.

While they are at it, they need to retroactively change the requirement that a U.S. president needs to born here.

The human brain is not fully developed until age 25. That is when it should be legal to vote.

Talk about stupid! Of course, rats want the young and dumb to vote with their emotions. It all goes into the democracy thing they think we have in America.
I am for raising the age to 30, unless you are in the military.

Raise the voting age back to 21 with the following exceptions:

1. 18 or older and a citizen serving in the US military.
2. 18 or older and a citizen working full time.
3. 18 or older and a citizen and the spouse of 1 or 2 above.

No. Even when I was a teenager, I would have thought that this was a very bad idea.

EXACTLY!

The voting age should be raised to at least 26!

Today's 16 year olds have the intellect and maturity of 5 year olds 50 years ago.

They didn't believe it would be necessary.

They didn't anticipate Trump and Trump voters.

Can’t own a gun, but can be given an even more dangerous weapon - the ability to help elect Democrats!

At some point, liberals are going recommend people vote based on members of families.

Mom and dad can vote but their toddlers are affected by elections so shouldn't all family members be counted?

Mom and dad can vote for them.
