It's tempting to think of the beard as a kind of "return to our ancestral roots" (ironic), but it's not quite as simple as that. Don't kid yourself, hairy paleo diet dude who just can't squeeze a shave between CrossFit sessions. Cavemen plucked their beards with clam shells, Little Mermaid-style, exhibiting a degree of care and attention that so many men today seem happy to dismiss. Men throughout the ages have oscillated between beard-having and not-having, from Alexander the Great's shaven soldiers, to the bushy-chinned Victorians.
If the men in my life are anything to go by, there are several stages to a man's beard-having. The first is Beard Anticipation. "I think," he says, caressing his chin thoughtfully, "I might grow a beard." To be honest, I reckon this is actually the second stage. He's already decided to do it, and now he's canvassing opinion. In every instance, I respond with sensitivity (mine): "Please don't grow an effing beard."

Over on the Left there is gender confusion. No real men. No real women. Not surprising that beards aren’t their thing.
I like beards on a lot of men; it depends on the man and how meticulously he’s going to keep it.

Well, if she doesn’t like her man having a beard and he says he’s keeping it - she can always stop shaving her armpits and legs. Her right after all.

Some guys look better with a beard, some guys don’t. A lot of guys who are bald on top like having beards. A lot of guys don’t like shaving. My wife would like me to have one, but only if I “groomed” it. I don’t have the time to figure it out. I tried it once, found it uncomfortable, and continue clean-shaven.
Just no neck beards!
Only time I ever had one was post-tet 68 after months long back to back air assault missions getting hopscotched to intercept enemy troops trying to get to Cambodia. I never have had anything itch so bad and was totally relieved to lose the face fur.
I had a beard before beards were cool. That said, not all opinions are created equal.
Some men who have small/weak chins grow a beard to cover that...
The men who have and ignore food hanging and hiding in their beard aren’t exactly attractive; just saying.
