A few weeks ago, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) wrote an article for Vox explaining the movements goals to end capitalism and radically change America.
In normal times, the declarations of a fringe party and ideology in America would not merit much attention. However, these are not normal times. A new Gallup poll shows that 57 percent of Democrats have a favorable view of socialism while only 47 percent view capitalism positively.
This pattern has been building for a while. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont took socialism mainstream in the party during the 2016 Democratic presidential primaries. Since then, Democratic Party candidates have been increasingly attaching themselves to the ideology.
Most notably, a telegenic young member of the Democratic Socialists of America named Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez defeated a senior Democrat in New York Citys 14th Congressional District and has since been on a whirlwind media tour, spreading the gospel of socialism.

- therefore, socialism and statism are an objectively anti-life, and are immoral.
Sure.Lets go with socialism and end up like the folks in Venezuela and living on a diet of eating used toilet paper and drinking urine.
Some questions that could use answers:
<><>1) How many tax dollars do social media companies suck-up from giving government agencies access to their data?
<><> 2) How much influence does this give US govt agencies over the policies of the social media company?
<><> 3) Has the Deep State been using its influence for political purposes?
<><> Has the Deep State used its power to (a) oppose certain voices, and, (b) to support other voices in the social media environment?

Capitalism without Nationalism = suicide.
It’s an interesting thing about people who love socialism - they lack rationality. If you comment on the Guardian that if you like the DMV, you’ll love socialism. You’d be surprised how many people write back that they love and admire the DMV as well as the post office.
Good post.
Misdirected energy.
Ocasio-Cortez didn’t win because she is a socialist.
She won because Crowley is white.
“have no idea”
I don’t think they care as long as they benefit from it.
Because they are ALL self serving hypocrite phonies.
“The only good commie, is one that’s dead”
And because Crowley grew complacent and did not fight.
And maybe also because Crowley uses a male pronoun :- )
You may wonder how Socialism persists with all those ills. The problem is you have a large core of lazy ignorant people who, no matter how bad things get, will feel things will be worse if they have to WORK HARD again. They are the Free Stuff Army (FSA) who will be bought off by getting something for nothing or nearly so. Even the loss of electricity, food and water might not dissuade them.
I have 0 love for either.
They are irrational. Either that or they don’t have driver’s licenses and mom posts their letters.
This is what we sang in elementary school. What happened?

Erdogan, the leader of Turkey said, “Democracy is like a bus you ride to the destination you want and then get off.”
That about sums up Democratic socialism too. Once you have it, there’s no going back without lots of bloodshed. Like any war, it’s better to solve the problem before the war starts than to rely on winning the war. You may win, but the cost is always higher than anyone expects.
I’m sure the left won’t go too far and cause reactionary movements to form in opposition to them. That totally never happens.
"The rich need to pay their fair share." I agree, but since the top 10% of income earners in the US foot 72% of total tax receipts, I'd argue for tax cuts on the rich. Like it or not, they provide jobs which leads to economic growth. And here's the part liberals miss: If the pie is growing at 4% per year, even if your share of that pie doesn't change, you disposable income is also rising. Cut taxes, and it rises even more.
"But that creates a deficit!" No...spending creates a deficit. Buffet proposed a simple solution to the "elect-me" spending Congress engages in: Anyone in Congress who votes for a budget that increases the deficit by 3% or more, cannot run for reelection. You'd see the Free-Cell-Phones-for-Deadbeats program die in a heartbeat.
Cortex is a very, very, bad joke.
Well then, the Democratic party should go full socialist, and with some good campaigning by the GOP [whoops, I see the problem here] we should be able to get at least half that 47% for our side. The dems lose everything, except SF, some boroughs in NY, Santa Cruz, and Austin.
