Tell McRaven to simply not have it renewed.

There are more clearances lost than kept. Security clearances do not necessarily follow you when you are transferred. Clearances in Government are expensive so few are granted. Rank has its privilege.

First one is cleared by background investigation for a security clearance. But he/she must still have a NEED TO KNOW before a security clearance is effective in a given situation with a given set of information.

What is Brennan's need to know anything now????

That’s the way I always understood it. Why the hell is Brennan’s little buddy, McRaven, having to beg the president to pull his clearance? That should be automatic. McRaven has no business having a clearance now that he’s hangin’ with the snowflakes at the Institute Of Commie Libism in Austin.

I wonder if it was Navy Adm. Bill McRaven that put all of Seal Team 6 on one helicopter, then had them sent to get blown out of the sky in Afghanistan?

Mattis is correct and is stating a fact.

Clearances are indeed only given and kept on a need to know basis.

President Trump should pick one high profile backstabber each week and make a big show out of taking its security clearance away.

So why do you “need” a security clearance when you LEAVE the job?

Why do these security clearance revocations have to be done by the President?
I know d@@n well it is not his job. Someone beneath him will not do their job and is forcing yet another hit job on him.

Sick of this.

He is constantly forced to take the flak because people won’t do their job.

Guess these ineffective “employees” are waiting for the mid-terms too?

I am disgusted at the continual abuse of this President.

It’s been a long time since I dealt with security clearances but I know that a new BI is run every 5 years at a pretty good cost. Some say $20,000. Times that by even one unnecessary investigation is a lot of money. Talk about government waste!
Take away all clearances when people no longer have a need to know and no one not actually working for the government has a need to know. This should be a law enacted by Congress and not an EO which can be undone.

Not only should everyone leaving the environment that requires a security clearance lose it as they depart, they should not be allowed to renew their clearance either. From what I am hearing, many “advisors” retain their clearances by just filling out some paperwork. This is security breach of inordinate magnitude. If you are not working directly on the program as an active government employee with no side hustles (conferencing with lobbyists or journalists for instance), you have no need for security clearance. John Brennan is the most egregious example of a system gone amuck. Thousands of clearances exist for non essential personnel and needs immediate remediation.

I worked at Texas Instruments in Dallas for 40 years. Back then they were doing lots of Government contracts. My first job needed a confidential clearance. I went from that to Secret, Top Secret, and then to NATO Secret. As soon as TI stopped doing doing government contracts, those no longer needing them were taken away. I was told that the company had to pay for each clearance. If that’s still the case (Having to pay), I’d like to know how much the government is paying. ?????

That’s right. The Army taught us (50 years ago) that a “need to know” was a central factor in accessing a particular piece of classified material.
