Have you ever seen what a swamp looks like after it’s been drained? The snakes are all dead, the swamp critters driven out and scattered, mostly dead. The stink goes away.
I live in a swamp; they don’t even begin to stink until the water level drops and the flip flopping fish die have stilled. The snakes remain very much alive, safely hidden among the cypress roots, until discovered and dragged out one by one.
