Sen. Susan Collins says Kavanaugh sees Roe v. Wade as ‘settled law’

Supreme Court nominee Brett M. Kavanaugh told Sen. Susan Collins on Tuesday that Roe v. Wade was “settled law,” the Maine Republican told reporters after their meeting.

Collins, a supporter of abortion rights, said she raised the issue with Kavanaugh, who is meeting with senators ahead of his confirmation hearings next month.

“We talked about whether he considered Roe to be settled law,” Collins said, referring to the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision that established a woman’s right to terminate her pregnancy.

Collins said Kavanaugh told her that he agreed with Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., who said during his 2005 confirmation hearing that Roe was “settled as a precedent of the court.” Collins and Kavanaugh, who serves on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, met for more than two hours Tuesday morning.

“He said that he agreed with what Justice Roberts said at his nomination hearing, in which he said it was settled law,” Collins said. “We had a very good, thorough discussion.”

The senator has not said whether she will support Kavanaugh, but she has also declined to offer strong criticism of President Trump’s nominee. With Republicans holding a slim 51-to-49 Senate majority, support from Collins and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) would ensure Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

as long as Collins votes for this very highly=qualified nominee, I don’t really care why she does it

I do, however, hope the good people of Maine will PLEASE retire this unreliable senator ASAP!

When you call Senator’s offices, they want to know where you are from. They don’t like taking calls from people who are not a constituent of the given Senator.

Collins’ opinions affect me clear on the other side of the nation.

Her vote on justices are very important to me. Her votes on other issues are as well.

There is no written “Law” on this issue.

Congress needs to pass the written law.

Collins stands in denial of the Constitution.

Dred Scott was settled law, until it wasn’t.

Roe is a house built of toilet paper.

It is? Oh, then can we bring back slavery and segregation? Because those were ‘settled law’ too.

I’d take that one step further and leave it up to each of the 50 states to decide for themselves.

The abomination of Roe was made possible by the stark raving lunacy of Griswold v Connecticut.

I hope he doesn’t regard Plyler v. Doe as settled law.

The Supreme Court only hears cases that it wants to hear. It does not make pronouncements without there being a case filed, and it does not hear all cases.

If there is a valid case brought up, it will be up to the Supreme Court to issue a verdict on that case.

The left is much too obsessed with abortion. They love it. They need it. Without it they are nothing. It’s their sacrament. Every time they kill a baby they affirm their hatred for Christianity and God. They are deathly afraid of losing it.

Well, it is settled law until the correct case comes along which proves the legitimacy of the unborn baby as a human person.

“Settled law” is only going to enter into it when the Lord finally judges sin after the door of Grace has closed. At that point the final results of this slaughter of the innocent really will be settled and the final word given.

Until then these people need Grace, they need it badly. They need Grace even if we need to be mindful of never compromising with them when it comes to the evil they uphold and support.

It’s how the federal has rolled since FDR and company kicked the Constitution to the curb.
