The chairman of a Connecticut school district's board of education resigned after the board voted to begin each meeting by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Josh Adams, chairman of the New Hartford Board of Education, ( reportedly stepped down) after opposing a vote by his fellow board members.

Adams was overruled after telling board members that he would not propose the policy in a meeting, saying he decides on the agenda as chairman.

He also said he doesn't pledge allegiance to anything and supports "principles on which the country was founded."

“he doesn’t pledge allegiance to anything”

Well that he’ll admit to, perhaps.

He’ll realize he’s been stupid in a couple of days then will institute a lawsuit to get his job back.

Then some schmuck ACLU lawyer will take up his cause.

He doesn’t pledge allegiance to anything?

Does he have any allegiance to the schools, the board he is a member of, the organization that theoretically should have his allegiance since he’s a member of the board running the school system?

What a ridiculous man.

If that is how he feels about the Pledge and the Country then he sure as hell should not be on the School Board.

Thank you for referencing that article yoe. Please note that the following critique is directed at the Pledge and not at you.

With all due respect to Pledge-reciting patriots, and noting that I’m not going to stop anybody from reciting the Pledge, please consider the following problem with the Pledge imo.

It’s no surprise that most citizens probably regard the states more as geographical areas under the control of the federal government, since every time they recite the Pledge they indoctrinate themselves to think of the USA as “indivisible” and “One Nation” instead of individual sovereign states.

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible [emphases added], with liberty and justice for all."

In fact, Thomas Jefferson had indicated that citizens should regard their respective states as independent nations while foreigners should regard US as one nation.

"The true theory of our Constitution is surely the wisest and best, that the States are independent as to everything within themselves [emphasis added], and united as to everything respecting foreign nations." --Thomas Jefferson to Gideon Granger, 1800.
