U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley on Tuesday appeared to question the world bodys count of Palestinian refugees, the latest in a series of steps by the Trump administration challenging how relief aid is delivered to the Palestinians.
In remarks at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a Washington think tank often sympathetic to Israel, Haley agreed with a questioner who suggested that the U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNWRA), which helps Palestinian refugees, overcounts their number.
The United States earlier this year cut its aid to UNWRA to $60 million from a promised $350 million for the year.
We will be a donor if it (UNRWA) reforms what it does if they actually change the number of refugees to an accurate account, we will look back at partnering them, Haley said. [ ]
On another emotionally charged issue, Haley also questioned the right of return to Israel, claimed by the Palestinians as part of any eventual peace settlement.
Asked whether the right of return should be off the table, Haley replied: I do agree with that, and I think we have to look at this in terms of whats happening (with refugees) in Syria, whats happening in Venezuela.

Just a thought, Send the Syrian refugees to Venezuela, there’s plenty of room these days. Send the Venezuelan refugees to Syria, they have room now also.
The so called Palestinians need to go back to Jordan and STFU.
Man, then need to put me in charge, I’ve got all the answers!
The “Palestinians” didn’t come from Jordan; they came from places like Egypt and Iraq. Even PLO leader Zuheir Mohsen, although through some double-talking, admitted back in 1977 that Jordanians and “Palestinians” were not the same.
Sorry but I beg to differ.
“In 1917 Great Britain issued the Balfour Declaration for “the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people”. In 1922 Britain allocated nearly 80% of Palestine to Transjordan. Thus, Jordan covers the majority of the land of Palestine under British Mandate. Jordan also includes the majority of the Arabs who lived there. In other words, Jordan is the Arab portion of Palestine.
The residents of Palestine are called “Palestinians”. Since Palestine includes both modern day Israel and Jordan both Arab and Jewish residents of this area were referred to as “Palestinians”.
False basis and red herring. I was not referring to Mandatory Palestine at all; and besides that, Golda Meir, with respect to that, famously said “I’m a PalestinianI have a Palestinian passport!”
No “Palestinians” existed before the late 1960s; no Arabs were calling themselves by that name. Another brilliant anti-West idea concocted by the USSR. And again, no “Palestinians” originated in Jordan.
Zuheir Mohsen in the 1977 interview (the same one where he admitted that “[t]he Palestinian people does not exist”) referred to “Palestine” and Jordan” as separate entities. As he put it, “(T)he moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan”; so clearly, “Palestine” in their context means only Israel.
We’re getting far afield from my original remark. I used Palestinians in parentheses for all of the reasons you mention and more. They call themselves that no matter how inappropriate. The point was that they were, for the most part, displaced from Jordan when Israel was formed. It’s telling the Jordan didn’t want to take them in when that happened. My point was, they came from Jordan and Jordan should take them back. There, I got your two state solution, 1. Jordan 2. Israel
All fixed.
My bad I meant that they were Jordanians until 1967 not 1948
No “Palestinians” came from Jordan. Apart from what few Arabs were in what the Ottoman Empire called “Southern Syria” when the State of Israel came to be, the majority are from Egypt and Iraq as I noted.
The fact that Zuheir Mohsen spoke of “Palestine” and Jordan as two separate entities speaks for itself. That makes Israel “Palestine” in that context.
Mandatory Palestine is not what the “Palestinians” call “Palestine”.
