Trump cites 'personal experience' of losing followers in new claim of social media bias

President Trump said Wednesday that he has "personal experience" of possible political bias against conservatives by social media giants, citing fluctuations in his number of online followers, and saying alleged bias by companies "may not be legal."

Expounding on his recent claims of bias in social media and search results, Trump told reporters at the White House that "I think that Google, and Facebook, and Twitter, I think they treat conservatives and Republicans very unfairly."

"I could tell you that I have personal experience, I have a lot of people on the various platforms," Trump said. "I can tell you when things are different and all of a sudden you lose people and you say, 'Where did they go?' They are taken off. Now I don't know if it happens to the other side, but I can say with respect to Google and Twitter and Facebook, there is a big difference."

I hope that President Trump and his allies can figure out a way to police social media asap.

His expert use of online communication paid huge dividends in winning the White House. Moreover, it’s vital to maintain some level of fairness on those platforms, considering the fact that he’ll being facing almost blanket hostility from the LSM. CNN and MSNBC likely won’t cover his campaign and Fox News is getting rather adversarial as well.

The best way to do it is to shake the confidence of those who purchase ads. That’s how they make their money, and the quickest way to get their attention.

If they can advocate for their political causes and face no consequences and see increasing sales and profit - why not continue doing so? The way to get change is to interrupt the money flow.

this is discrimination based on political belief and your free speech right. It must not be tolerated in America. “private” business means nothing if civil rights are violated. I am hearing that some of this can be regulated by the Fair trade commission “FTC” and the FCC. If so they should come down hard on this. If this needs legislation it needs to be done to preserve our freedom. These entities are openly in public commerce and public accommodation. They are clearly subject to millions in damages for violation of civil rights. This is crucial to crack down hard and fast on this thought control crap.

Thanks Biggirl, I am very concerned about this aspect of constitutional freedom. I am so aware of the law on racial discrimination. It means nothing if your are a “private business” , That is out the window if you are in the stream of commerce or public accommodations. YOU SHALL NOT DISCRIMINATE!!
I also note that Freerepublic is not in that stream of commerce as it operates on donations which we gladly give and is a private “club” exempt from its membership requirements just like any country club. But when you have twitter , facebook . snap chat etc making BILLIONS in commerce chopping out followers? wow, you better watch out!!

These companies are bigger than most governments, which makes them the equivalent of nation-states.

The bromide that they are “private businesses” is bunk.

I’m glad you said that.

Each is defended here on FR as “private business and it can do what it wants.”
However, all our freedoms of speech and political rights and even the right to do business as conservatives are under massive assault by being banned from the modern equivalent of the newspapers and radio of the old times.
If millennials proudly say “I never watch TV news” for example, and will never , ever see a GOP ad or hear a word of praise for anything about a conservative, EVER, then this is a monopoly.

Earlier: if banned from using telephones for your political views then go around knocking on doors or posting broadsides to poles and trees. You lose.
If railroads side with one candidate in the 1880s to 1900s,
then use horses and wagons. You lose.

Sorry, you are powerless.
Facebook,Twitter,Instagram ,YouTube and searches on Google are banned for your side. Enemy side okay. “Private business.”

Go ahead and print little neighborhood shopping news ads to be given out in the racks in front of supermarkets. ALL your political ads are now limited to that if you are off the internet.

Google searches requiring moving 2-3-4 or more full pages inward before one GOP leaning item is found If ever) is not fair. People now see “Trump obviously guilty of many crimes” on 50 or 75 searches before “Trump cites achievements in voter rally.” Too late.

Oh,and your own “private business” potential customers have to use places such as Google search for our business info. which now replaces Yellow Pages and can cost you money for closer placement to the front by Google, and soon NO amount of money will allow a conservative to even buy that placement at all. Sorry, your private business is now out of business.

FAKE views, followers and likes

Social Media is FAKE.

Facebook is fraud. Trump should split it up for fraud.

It is also an “in kind” contribution to the Democrat Party. That should be worth Bazillions in federal election fines.

No because they are not in stream of commerce. But let me ask you this. Can we not withstand and defend our values. I know I can.
