LOUISVILLE- Republicans have called for a federal investigation into allegations that Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes misused voter data—but so far unsurprisingly— top Democrats in Kentucky are staying mum.

When asked about the allegations Tuesday, Attorney General Andy Beshear said his office was looking into the claims.

“Given that the allegations are very new and very fresh, I think it would be premature to comment any further but we are in possession of that letter.” he said.

Mac Brown, Chair of the Republican Party of Kentucky, has called for a federal investigation into the claims as well as Dearing be granted whistleblower status. When asked if Dearing should be given protections associated with a whistleblower—Beshear stepped around the question.

“At the end of the day it’s important that when people have legitimate concerns about state government that they can come forward and make them. That there are sufficient protections in place for folks that have real concerns about what’s going on to be able to voice them.” he said.

Congressman John Yarmuth, D-Louisville had a similar response to questions about the allegations surrounding Grimes on Wednesday. When asked how voters should feel about the allegations—Yarmuth said there is no proof that Grimes used any of the voter data improperly.

“I don’t know enough to offer much of a comment,” he said. “It seems like this is right now an internal dispute. Even though there is an allegation the Alison improperly accessed voter records there is no indication that she used them for any illicit or inappropriate purpose. I think everyone better hold their powder before they get more information on this.”

Yarmuth stood by Grimes record as Secretary of State when asked if voters should feel confident casting their ballots in November.

How long will it take to put a capital “D” in front of her name?

A pic would suggest she’s not guilty. But then Democrats would rather talk about Maxine + Hillary.

Here in Kentucky we all know Grimey A__, she is just a typical democrat, the rest of the country is just figuring it out.

The reporter types in a Democrat's political affiliation in his computer, and a digital app pops up that looks like this
